Hi everyone

I did a lot of reading, learning about mySQL databases and experimenting over the last 24 hours, and I am pleased to announce that the old forum is back. Access here.

Is there a way to search for all of the threads I started on the old forum? I tried using * or leaving the search topic blank, but I get nothing. If I log in (or not,) I can't access "Profile" to view all of my posts either.

Search for your username and the word 'the' or 'a' or something similar.

Maybe.

Time for stupid old posts to come back to haunt me...

Ah, well, yes, there's also that... :-\

But then again: one does get quite a lot in exchange. ;D

Go to a particular board, and click on the top bar "started by". Now the threads will be listed alphabetically by name of the members who started them.

I would like to add my thanks for bringing the old forum back. I wasn't here then, and there is a wealth of information there!!!   8)

(I see you didn't have the Composer's Index back then!)   ;D

Check out THIS THREAD in the current forum; one that I started and linked to composers in the 'old' forum - of course, the links stopped working, but after your post, I just tried to link a few of the composers and seem to work - would be quite interested in others checking this out - might be a consideration for a pinned thread if access to these many old threads is now possible - just a suggestion?   :D

Just wanted to add my thanks to Rob for bringing back the old forum!   :-*

I spent a couple of hours last night reading through just a portion of the Fighting Over Chopin thread.  Lots of great info there (and elsewhere), and I'm appreciating it at a much higher level than when I first checked it out 5 or so years ago (much classical listening under the bridge).  I actually printed it out at work -- 115 pages, with miniscule margins and type smaller than the phonebook!  Now that's a thread!
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Yeah, that one was a real labor of love. People put so much effort into those posts.

I remember the title was a joke of some kind, but I forget what it alluded to.

Rob..

How do I get my old user name back?

It used to be cliftwood and I don't think it's being used by anyone else.

I'm a fugitive from the CMG.

Thanks!

Hi everyone

I did a lot of reading, learning about mySQL databases and experimenting over the last 24 hours, and I am pleased to announce that the old forum is back. Access here.

For those of you who don't know, this forum was originally located at www.good-music-guide.com/forum, but the database got corrupted in an upgrade and became unusable back in 2007. The data was still there, but the forum software couldn't access it.

I have managed to resurrect the old forum - it will be a read-only archive. You cannot post or reply to any existing posts there. You are welcome to cut-and-paste any posts you think worthy to the new forum here to continue the discussions.

Be careful - some of you with usernames on both forums - don't get them mixed up - the two fora look very similar. Best not to login to the old forum at all. You should be able to read all the posts without logging in.

enjoy!

Cheers
Rob

P.S. Please report any bugs as a reply here.
