I haven't even heard his Ravel yet.  And what's with all the label hopping?  He needs a home.

Sono Luminus earns some of its keep by hosting other record labels in its studio. Goodyear actually recorded both his Ravel on Orchid Classics and his "Nutcracker" arrangement on Steinway & Sons at Sono Luminus Studios.

Thanks, didn't know that.  Presumably this is for Orchid, then.

Any takers?

In more important new release news, it looks like 2017 is a good year for Brahms, with Volodos out now, and a new Nelson Freire Brahms recital slated for July.  No image as of today.

I have always liked Wand's conducting but there would be a lot of duplication there for me. Otherwise that surely would be a fine set indeed.

First thought:  Telarc isn't interested enough to box it up under their own name?

Second thought:  Must be a pirate: no Paavo image on the cover.

La Reveuse do some of Buxtehude's chamber music -- I got to find out about this because Sebastian Wommer plays keyboard for them, he's done an exceptional Sweelinck CD. The performances are really nice.

Anyone has any information about this? If it's not just an expanded rehash of the M&A sets, adding the well-known later collaborations with Lupu (Mozart, Schubert), this would be exciting for sure!

It mostly is just a rehash, and it does NOT add the Lupu recordings (owned by Universal nowadays), which reinforces that I will just stick to the two M&A boxes. There's more Bach and there's the final three symphonies discs that aren't part of the M&A sets, I think, but I can easily live with that.

I have this set:

I like Goldberg's music making a lot, but none of this rises to the very top. The whole box is quite comprehensive and very satisfying musically, but I wouldn't want to go for more. One nicety is that the harpsichord version of Haydn's D major concerto is included, along with the more commonly heard piano one.

Based on what I know of this, I would probably not be much inclined to look any further as well ... It's the chamber music and other violin recordings. Never been too much into his conducting (nor his Bach concertos).

His Mozart and Beethoven sonatas with Lili Kraus, Casals, Horszowski and others ... also concertos conducted by Mitropoulos, van Beinum and others - that's what he's about for me.

And the sonatas with Radu Lupu (Mozart and Schubert), too.

Kairos is bravely betting on Billone. Two new releases in less than 6 months.
I think I'm going to get this one as well  :)

I was surprised to see the Bartok sonata there but it turns out that there's a concert recording of him doing it on spotify - the recording was too noisy to be commercially released I guess, but you can hear what he does very clearly and it's good I think. I don't know if it's the same as the one in this set.

I was also surprised to see a Bach Second partita from him, and Schoenberg op 47, the Phantasy for violin and piano, with Beveridge Webster,  also on spotify. I'll check them out later.

All of that was also on one of the two Music&Arts sets ... this new one looks like an amended rip-off of those to me.
That label has other similar sets on the market, some of them would be of interest to me (Mitropoulos, Szigeti, Krips ...) - anyone knows the label? It's called Artis, it seems. Guess it's some kind of Japanese or Korean PD operation?

Kairos is bravely betting on Billone. Two new releases in less than 6 months.
I think I'm going to get this one as well  :)
The first one being the one you kindly presented me with?

I'm in for more!

I have always liked Wand's conducting but there would be a lot of duplication there for me. Otherwise that surely would be a fine set indeed.
As many duplications as this set?

Jokes aside probably as good a conductor on the core German repertoire as there was out there. I can't really say he made anything but outstanding recordings.
