Yes, the Eroica was magnificent in their spacious, patient and accented interpretation. So was their 7th, btw. Alas, none of these was reisued. And their Schubert Death and the Maiden quartet was extraordinary. The Mozarts have never been out of the catalogue OTOH. Strange...

I had a different issue, on the ProArte label, similar in appearance to the CD cover, but without the black background.

Still remember it fondly.

Yes, that's a favorite, particularly for the horn playing.  I remember seeing something about this being a quad recording.

Becoming quite an onslaught.  His concerto box just came out, now this.  I suppose a couple of boxes of him conducting will be next...

It's all good...

Naxos is reissuing dozens of Vox titles, some at mid-price for some reason.  Not all of the titles are being issued.  Hopefully there's another batch at some point.  Some Walter Klien and Abbey Simon titles remain out of reach.

"In his fourth solo recording for Fuga Libera, Jan Michiels places this shared Slavic consciousness and musicality in the perspective of the almost filial relationship between the two composers, for example by interspersing the pieces from two eminently lyrical cycles: Dvorák's Poetic Tone Pictures op.85 (1889) and Janácek's On an Overgrown Path, JW VIII/17 (1900-11)."

Jan Michiels  - a great artist, a poet.

Hmm. They were always on my 'must sample that' list.

Naxos is starting to fill out the November release database, but no images yet and often nothing more than disc titles and artist last names. Full November news next week, but for now, enjoy these teasers (this is all the info I have on these, for now):

- Faure/Franck/Prokofiev recital on BIS from Sharon Bezaly (flute) and Vladimir Ashkenazy (piano)
- Kalevi Aho's new Saxophone Concerto on BIS
- Haitink/Bavarian Radio Bruckner 6 on BR Klassik
- world premiere for the complete original score of Shostakovich's "The Gadfly" on Naxos
- Prokofiev 2 & 3 with Vladimir Jurowski on PentaTone
- Nielsen 3 & 4 with Thomas Dausgaard on the Seattle Symphony's house label
- Biber's Missa Salisburgensis, with the excellent Collegium 1704 and Vaclav Luks, on Naxos Blu-Ray

I just read on Twitter that the final volume of the Karabtchevsky Villa-Lobos symphony cycle is coming on Naxos in November, featuring Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2. And it may have changed, but I recall conductor David Hill tweeting a few months ago about a disc of choral-orchestral music by George Dyson coming out in November on the same label.

Excellent, thanks for letting us know - It would be great if the Cycle got boxed up at some stage; will definitely be purchasing the recordings if/when this is done.

Can confirm, these are in the Naxos distribution database for November. Apparently Dyson has a Choral Symphony.

Apparently Dyson has a Choral Symphony.

Written in 1910 (interestingly preceding RVW's A Sea Symphony), but only premiered in 2014.

Unlike many people, I believe there's a difference between "sample" and "shamelessly deprive the owners of revenue".
