Had I been winning a dollar every time I visited a "not secure" web page I would have been a millionaire by now.

Yes, I know about http vs https, but my point is that it didn't used to tell me "Not Secure" so I was wondering if something changed. Now I see that it is not showing "not secure" on one computer, but it is showing it on another computer which should be identical (OS and browser). Probably I unknowingly changed a browser configuration setting on that computer without realizing it and that affects whether the warning is displayed.

I never changed any settings on Chrome or Firefox (work), probably both after they updated, they just suddenly started showing that one day, as though it was some big new scary feature. I'd sooner they wouldn't...  ::)

Yeah, but that would be counterfeit money.

You say that now, but wait until your account is hacked and posts dismissing Haydn as a talentless hack start appearing under your moniker. :)

The Secure warning only means that any data you send to the website is encrypted. This is important if you are entering bank passwords or other high-risk data. Not so important if you are just browsing a classical music forum. Theoretically, some hacker could intercept your login password, but I regard that as low risk.

Simple solution: click (and/or bookmark) "https://www.good-music-guide.com/community". The https is the important bit. You are now browsing the same forum, with no more security warning.

cheers

You put your finger on it. The way I access the site the URL gets fished up from the recently visited URL list and on one computer I use it is http:// and on another it happens to be https:// That explains the difference. It wasn't obvious because for some reason browsers today tend to hide the http:// part of the URL. I probably should make some sort of bookmark so that I get the secure one.

Anyway, I'm not sure security is so irrelevant. Weren't we all instructed to make our screen names different from our login names to thwart some sort of attack, a few years ago?

I have been getting sporadic bouts of slow loading, or even not loading at all, today, for the first time in a while.

I am also having the same problem today.

Perhaps the huge amount of pages of the What are you listening to now? thread has to do.

Yep.

Slow loading again. Very irritating. And yes, I think this issue has got something to do with it:

Loads of unwanted 'guests'.

(I hope Rob reads this thread frequently.)

I think it is interesting that a fair amount of these guests (according to who is online today) exert unknown action.

I've reported it to Rob, when morning comes to Oz he will at least know to check it out, provided he is not on a road trip right now. FWIW, I agree with y'all; looks like an attack of the Botnet to me, too.  :-\

The server keeps thinking I am double posting (that is, posting an identical message immediately after the first) even though I only click on the "post" button once.

The message I keep getting
Quote
Not Acceptable

Additionally, a 406 Not Acceptable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Edit...just to be clear, the actual post does post.
