Is Arkivmusic good to order from?
« on: February 20, 2011, 06:14:44 PM »
I'm looking at Arkivmusic.com and before I ordered from them I thought I better look around to see if they're okay to order from.

Are they good?  Trustworthy?

Yes and Yes.  More often than not, I receive my discs no more than 3 days after ordering.

Completely agree with Bulldog. If their prices were more frequently competitive, I would use them exclusively for all new recordings. I bought a nice Haydn box on BIS from them just yesterday, and expect that I'll have it Tuesday. Can't beat that! :)

If you buy a cd or box from Amazon but it's under a "seller"'s name, but "fulfilled by Amazon", how does that work?

Good question; curious myself. With new merchandise it seems pretty straightforward. However, I saw someone selling used CD's the other day that also said "Fulfillment by Amazon" so that stumped me... :-\

If you sell through Amazon (I do) there are two ways.  You list the item and when someone buys it you mail it yourself.  Or, you list it, you ship the thing to Amazon, they keep it in their warehouse and if it sells, Amazon ships it to the customer.

Some of their stock ships from Canada. I've found Arkiv very reliable.

Yes, Arkivmusic v. reliable.

And while I don't necessarily know how "fulfilled by Amazon" works, it's an item which will count towards application of "Super Saver Shipping."

Well, that's what occurred to me, but I thought it was a bit OTT that they would warehouse your stuff for you. Guess I was wrong. :(

Scarpia - just curious on your last point above; i.e. can one become an Amazon Marketplace seller and just ship all of their CDs to Amazon for them to list & shipped in purchased?  If so, what is the price difference on the average if an individual sells & ships a disc vs. using Amazon to fulfill the shipping assignment?  Thanks -  :)

That's how it works.  If you ship yourself Amazon sends sends the money it collects for shipping ($3 for a CD) to you.  I suspect if they ship themselves they deep that shipping allowance and an extra bit for themselves.  Even if you ship yourself they collect a substantial commission.  I won't know how much they collect if you contract for them to ship it.

The only thing to check for on Arkivmusic is to make sure you know what you are getting since they sell many reproduced discs that are now out of print:

http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/AlbumGroup;jsessionid=C6E885CACC9C85D595BE26583199A8D8?album_group=8

These are all cdrs which are always marked ArkivCD.  when searching, they get mixed in with non cdrs.  If this does not bother you, then disregard my post, but thought you should know what you are paying for.

My wife has been selling off her used books through amazon for a while, and she decided against the "fulfillment by amazon" nonsense, because amazon takes a bigger cut and you lose the opportunity to make a few extra pennies due to the fact that the shipping allowance amazon gives is often a couple of dimes more than the actual shipping cost using media mail.  ;)

The reason I switched to buying from Arkiv is their acceptance of payment through PayPal! My credit card number is never listed!

Yes, I like that too. I try to patronize merchants that accept PayPal even if it costs a bit more sometimes. Worth the effort. :)

CD Universe also accepts payments via PayPal and it's generally quite cheap. Unfortunately, these day its international charges are extremely high.

I usually wait for sales to order from Archivmusic.  Delivery is always fast and reliable (though I am in the same state).

I usually find their ArchivCDs too expensive, though, unless I really want something.  I assume they have to cover licensing costs, or they'd price them more competitively.
