A proposition: Tapatalk support
« on: May 14, 2011, 02:25:00 AM »
I would like to ask whether there are (and in the case of a negative answer to propose there be :) any plans for supporting  mobile forum reading/posting applications such as Tapatalk. There have been recent implementations of it on some Greek forums I'm occasionally reading (the visibility and usability benefits are hugely impressive) and as far as I understand it from the relevant discussions it's a solution that doesn't endanger the safety of the forum or require much work on the part of the administrators. A thought to consider!

I use tapatalk for a number if birding forums I frequent. These days my mobile is my main Internet access point, so tapatalk compatibility would greatly enhance my GMG enjoyment.

I have installed Tapatalk for GMG. For those that use, please let me know if it works OK.

For those that have never heard of it, Tapatalk enables you to use a forum using a iPhone or Android app called Tapatalk, which formats the forum natively for the device and makes it easy to use.

cheers

I saw the pop-up when I opened the forum page on Safari and thought at first it was a false alarm. Thanks a million, Rob!  8)

PS. It works just fine.

Here's something buggy I've found (FWIW): in PM, I reply all, compose a message, but it fails with an alert, "One or more to-recipients could not be found."

Maybe it happens even with a simple reply . . . if I reply to a single addressee, the message gets sent all right (sorry, Gurn!)

It's a different interface with the forum than on the web, but fairly good, all the same. I'm still breakin' it in.

[asin] tags don't function in Tapatalk. Just saying.  (Since I swing between Tapatalk and a regular browser on my Droid, it's no huge deal, by me.)

Indeed, they don't (my only gripe with it so far).

Really enjoying Tapatalk app for my iPhone. Great job.

Only complaint is the [asin] for amazon.com links not showing the pic , but that's minor.

:)

Yes, some functionality which doesn't translate to Tapatalk, but overall, like it.
