This a good listen?

Searching GMG archives, Don/Bulldog did not enjoy this recording but it appears nobody else has talked much about the Nielsen quartets.

I've seen good reviews of the Da Capo recordings (Danish String Quartet), but not heard them. Not familiar with any version.
I am now working on a discography of the works of Vagn Holmboe. Please visit and also contribute!

There is also a recording on Naxos that seems pretty good and was well received (I have it but frankly did not find the music all that relevant, compared to e.g. Nielsen's symphonies).

I knew the night had gone.

In the middle of a second go-round of Kontra's Holmboe cycle, and they do good work there, so I suspect they would do well in this one.  I must have the DaCapo recording Orfeo mentioned, since I have their box set of his chamber music*, but have no recollection of the music itself.

BTW, a good BIS recording of Nielsen music you don't hear much is the one devoted to his organ music.

Her Rach disc is good enough to make me think this might be worth a shot.  Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Scriabin, and Vorisek in a themed disc.

IIRC I enjoyed it better than the Danish Quartet on Dacapo, but either one should be fine if you want the Nielsen quartets.

They're all early works, mostly predating the first symphony, so the style isn't mature Nielsen by any means.

Anyone know this Tenebrae recording?

Some of the selections have my interest... I stumbled it across it when looking for one of the Frank Bridge compositions, which I suspect is rarely recorded (if at all before this).

EDIT: Turns out there's a Brilliant Classics release with some of the same works, released in 2015. So that's 2 recordings in 2 years.

Is this the same Rosalinde Haas as the one who has released a lot of Bach and the like privately? This Rosalinde Haas?

This is a new release: 43 CD + 3 DVD.  It is mostly "young Barenboim" (35-45 yo).  Many recordings in this box cant be found elsewhere.  I heard several nice excerpts on Radio Classique.  The cheapest price I found so far is 74€ on Dodax.

Yes, that's her. The booklet notes from the set (I received it yesterday) mention her studies with Reger expert Germani and a pic contemporary with the recordings suggests she was already, uh, "mature" when she set her Reger to disc (1988-1993). Sort of a Clara Haskil or Lili Kraus of the organ  :D

I borrowed it from the library one time. My recollection is that it was listenable, not very interesting, and probably recorded only because it was by a celebrity.

The string quartets, definitely.

Webern's works for chamber ensemble are all masterful.
