Personally, I am not a Facebooker, GooglePluser or Twit (are they the correct collective nouns?).

However, for those that feel the need, I have installed a new version of a social media sharing system on the forum, that enables members to share individual posts via their favourite social media sharing option.

By default, the icons are hidden. That should appease those who do not use this service.

By simply hovering over any post on the forum, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ icons are revealed and ready to use, at the base of each post.

As always, post venomous comments here. Also any positive ones (if any).

cheers
Rob

I appreciate the fact that they aren't in-my-face at all times. :)

I'm anti-social....media! :) Not a fan of facebook/etc., but I will just need to re-adjust where my pointer is on the screen, so no biggie. Will facebook members be able to share posts of non-facebook members on facebook? That is the only thing I am concerned about.

These social hubs are a part of internet life, one simply cannot do without them any more. In my line of work its even necessary to have at least twitter, posting on twitter makes known to my followers that GMG exist, so that would be good for the influx of new members. In that sense and others I am glad Rob did add them. You have the choice to use them or not.
On another note some rate method in the form of 1-5 stars for recording and performance with each posting would be wonderful too! Just 2 clicks, that would be appreciated very much Rob.

As it is, all your posts in this forum are public. By linking to them from Facebook, your popularity will only rise faster. ;D

Even though I have don't use FB, Twitter, etc, I don't, in principle, object to the icons appearance.

I'm troubled by one thing though: suddenly thread pages are taking a very long time to load (circa 15 seconds), even pages with no images. Since it wasn't happening yesterday, or any other time in the five years I've been here, I'm assuming the slowdown is caused by the new social networking software. It doesn't make me happy. In fact, the wait between pages is quite irritating.

Anyone else notice the forum being slower today?

It might be a problem with Chrome. I switched to Firefox and the pages loaded quickly and normally. I'm back to Chrome now and experiencing the slowdown once again.

I have IE. Pages are loading up fine. However, when I select a specific post to go to, it does take an additional 2-3 seconds for it to go directly to that post. So page loads up as always and then pauses until it flips down to the selected post.

Yes with me too, but I had that before the icons were added. That started when the Apple add was added, the one that annoys me by popping up and asking me pretty please to download a plugin. ::)

So true Karl, I tried to be nice about it, but I guess I am one of the camp that says no to Apple.

I could become a fan if they change their brand to Banana . . . .

Just tested out my first Twitter link from GMG, I think it's a great idea.
I really love Twitter, it's short, entertaining, and if you follow the right user, informative.
