Topic: Classical Radio

Hello!
I'm a newbie to this site, so be nice please!

Just wanting some input on people thoughts as to classical radio.
I personally find the offering very limited! It feels like your either in the Radio 3 camp, or the Classic FM camp.
As a student have decided to base my dissertation project on this very topic.


I’ve decided to base my dissertation project on the controversy of classical radio. I will be comparing Classic FM and BBC Radio 3 to see how the classical music community perceive the two stations and how commercial/licence funded programming is addressing the needs of us listeners.

I am hoping to get feedback from different age groups with different reasons for listening to mine. I have designed a small questionnaire, only ten questions, that will help me with this. If you could take two minutes to complete this I would be very greatful and hopefully on the way to a cracking dissertation!

(there are no questions about how much you earn, or whether you have a degree, I’m more interested in how you think radio addresses your needs as a listener and what it means to you as an individual, please be frank with your opinions!)

Don't get to hear much BBC classical radio on this side of the pond, but, yes - modernists are often suppressed and played at very odd hours of the morning.  Station managers tell you that the listeners request Bach and Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin.
All well and good, they are tops.
But I might wish to hear Bartok's 2nd String Quartet, or a piano piece by Griffes while driving to the beach.  Be very hard to get done other than the CD player.

I haven't seriously listened to the radio is probably 15 years. I simply don't need it anymore. The life and times of the radio are dead as far as I'm concerned. I own more CDs than most radio stations, so I simply don't need them. I mean if you think about it, people who are into classical music don't really need the radio either because there are so many other alternatives available to us now that waiting around the radio for them to play something that's different and interesting is simply a waste of time. Now, all that you need to do is find out a composer's name and go to YouTube to sample their music.
