Tchaikovsky: Symphonic Poems; Manfred Symphony
Russian National Orchestra/Pletnev

3 discs including four works I've never heard before (marked with an asterisk below):

Fate*
Perhaps my favourite, this early Fatum, with a dramatic theme reminding of the sometimes even spellbinding Romeo & Juliette. Of course the composer thought it a failure and I think destroyed it.
… music is not only an `entertainment’, nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

Very impressive, esp walking on the top. Almost makes you hear the noise of war.

The organs on this set sound absolutely gorgeous.
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

This is Rüdiger Lotter's ensemble, it sounds good to me. And live -- all the concerts in a single evening, which may give it something.

Quote
A memorable concert took place in May 2004 in the Church of all Saints in Munich’s royal residence: in a three-hour triumphal tour de force, the Lyriarte ensemble led by Rüdiger Lotter performed Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s Mystery Sonatas (Rosary Sonatas). Each of the 16 sonatas in this highly vir-tuosic cycle requires a different tuning, to which the soloist must adapt with each new work. This means, of course, intense concentration and musical imagination on the part of the soloist. A live recording of this concert – the first live recording of the Mystery Sonatas ever – is now being released.

Buxtehude

I found this set ( at last ) for a reasonable price. Foccroulle was a bit of a disappointment,a bit dry and I like to have another set .At this moment is Vogel my favorite.

If you would like to dispense with the Buxtehude Foccroulle, I am willing to take them of your hands :)
