Someone in our block disposed of the CDs and put a box of 200 of them by the bins. Probably prefers streaming. No classical, and not valuable, but a lot of soul, rock, jazz, hip-hop names I don't know or own. There' s no work for me today, so fun and exploring in stead. I have decided to keep around 70 of them. Am enjoying two albums by Katie Melua now.

Thanks. Very cool to hear about this Harrison concerto. I’ve read good things about it. I haven’t heard West Side Story in ages either, so don’t feel too bad about it. ;) I’ve read nothing but great things about Tilson Thomas’ performance, so this is rather encouraging.

Not the complete work - but the last movement of the Harrison is a hoot !

Here it is complete, from Michigan:

Free stuff is very hard to resist...
Struck by the sounds before the sun,
I knew the night had gone.
The morning breeze like a bugle blew
Against the drums of dawn.

Thanks, pjme, but I’m going to wait until I get the recording. That way I go in with fresh ears.

Hope you like the Bach as much as I did!!

The Adam is wonderful. If you like it, there is a second (very good) ballet on the same label and with the same performers:

Thanks Mc Urkneal, I'll keep an eye on that Adam ballet. A great, underrated - though admitttably secondary - composer. I love his opera Si j'étais roi (If I were king), an absolute charmer. And of course, Giselle.

I have that one on my wishlist. I do enjoy Le Postillon de Lonjumeau  and Le Toreador though, so I am guessing I'd like that as well.

I already own Schiff and Crossley in Janáček, but I just bought this set from Firkusny:

I seem to to recall Luke thought very highly of this particular set.

I'm with Luke, I also think highly of this disc. Janacek wrote some achingly beautiful piano music.
