Monk in France LP. One of the coolest covers ever and some great music, but very disappointing sound quality--far below par of other Riversides from the same era (which were good but not great).

It's probably a radio recording that Riverside later bought ... Monk still owed them some, so the France (now available in expanded form on Fremeaux btw) and Italy albums were an easy way out of the contract when he switched to Columbia.

Fantastic idea and execution, in sumptuous, almost glorious sound quality.  :)

I've cracked open the 5-CD set of "The Amazing Bud Powell" - listened to volume 1 today and while I'm sad Sonny Rollins won't be on future volumes, am very excited to hear the rest!

When you get a chance, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the sound. Also curious who mastered the set.

Thanks

I bought this 2018 paper sleeve release
https://www.importcds.com/complete-amazing-bud-powell/600753824498

And it's the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder editions. Remaster from 2001 I think. Rudy being Rudy - sounded great for the time. Will be playing Vol. 2 in about an hour :)

Edit: but I am doing the listening in a car on the car stereo.
