Joe Albany with Warne Marsh: The Right Combination.

Sarah Vaughan and her trio: At Mister Kelly's

I have an Ella Fitzgerald recording from the same venue, but this one - despite being only my third(?) time of listening - remains a favourite. And the thing is, it wasn't until oor Simon posted it (years ago now? ;D ) I learned it existed. In any case, a real and rare pleasure.
Apart from Anita O'Day, if anyone is aware of other live (and I suppose, intimate) stuff in a similar vein/from a similar era, do let me know, please? Cheers.

I seem to recall that that had lots of improvised lyrics that I enjoyed a lot. Am I remembering that correctly? Must give it another listen.

Yeah, that's it. A couple of years earlier on the set with Clfford Brown (also seen posted here) she indulges more in scatting.
I think I'll pick up the Anita O'Day at the CD anyway.

I can't even imagine...
But if I've ever the chance, I'll check it out.  :)

mmmmm, that looks nice...wait, were we talking about music here?

I have been listening to a few Arve Henriksen albums on Spotify, trying to find one I like. I was blown away by Strjon, World of Glass, and The Magical Forest--all CD's I've owned for years--but none of the other ones I'm sampling really do much for me. Also trying to preview Iro Haarla's Kolibri somewhere.

I am looking forward to Qobuz coming to the U.S. as I'm tired of Spotify...

Serge Chaloff: Blue Serge

Another cool purchase from Camden Market.

Oooh, that one is fun. Thanks for reminding me of it - will dig out my copy and listen next week!

My favourite baritone sax album ever, if I have to make a pick! He's got one of the finest sounds, fleshy, full, gorgeous. And the rhythm section is wonderful, too!

Just in case, Uptown (who have already issued "Boston 1950", which is highly recommended) have released their second Chaloff disc early in the year, a live recording from 1953, which falls in a period that is otherwise a large gap in the chronology - again warmly recommended:

Back from vacation, me self, had my nice bluetooth box with me and plenty of time to listen to some music:

EDIT: The black one with no text is Marcus Belgrave's "Gemini" (or rather "Gemini II" it seems):

Finally, after my return, new arrivals:

Finally found a reasonably priced copy of this 24CD set today!

Listened to discs 1-3 tonight.  Transfers are OK, but there seems to be a high pitched noise that appears near the end of a lot of these tracks and continues until the end of the song. The music making is impeccable, though. And incredibly joyful.

Congrats! That was my first real big sucker (beyond 10 CDs, that is) back in the days ... I got it in a local store and overpaid considerably, but back then I didn't really know, and by now I don't care a bit!

Thanks, I completely understand.

By the way, how did your booklet hold up? I bought my set used. It is near mint, except for the booklet. Most of its pages have separated from the binder.

It's still okay because I was aware of the problem and never really opened it flat, always treating it with lots of caution.

Ten years back back in my file sharing days I managed to get this entire set on soulseek; and have no shame in admitting it.   8)   If I could only have one collection of Ellington, this would be it.  Congrats.
