I am of Hungarian heritage. I love the cello, and spent a few years learning it. I like performers who let the music speak.

How has this work and performance escaped me for so long (48 years to be exact)? It took Reddit (better known for kitten and celebrity pictures) to introduce me to it.

I have since learnt that this was one of Starker's signature pieces, having performed it several times for Kodály himself, first when he was just 15 years old.

I would love to get this video as a download, but iTunes and Amazon do not have it.

I might have to order the old technology DVD and hope it plays on my Australian player.

No. 8 is also found on this hybrid release.  I'm guessing it is the same performance, but just mastered differently.  Thanks for the link, Rob.  I'm enjoying it with my first cup of coffee.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz
