Worked fine for me when I had it search for the phrase "search function".
Was that a metasearch? Or a recursive search?

I just tried the search function and had no problems. :-\

It was definitely acting up a few days ago.  Message about it being "too busy" and to try again later.
High Sierra's 'Secure Kernel Extension Loading' is Broken-a new 'security' feature in macOS 10.13, is trivial to bypass-let Apple know to address this prior to release!!

My biggest frustration with GMG: Search never finds what I am looking  for.  Plus the "extreme business message" at 7AM in europe, i.e. 1 AM on the east coast.  Come on, "you must be joking Mr. GMG" !!

I don't know how you are using search, so I won't say you aren't using it right. I will tell you what works well for me.

I never search from the main page. If I am looking for information on Mozart generally, I go to the 'Composers' section and search from within that 'room'. Or if  I am looking for 'Mozart symphonies' I go to the 'Great Recordings' section and search from within it. This always produces good results for me. If 'Mozart Symphonies' in the Great Recordings room doesn't find what I want, then I go to, perhaps, General Music Discussion and do the same search there.

If you are already doing it this way, my apologies; I haven't any idea why it makes you trouble... :-\

Thanks Gurn.  I never thought search could give different results depending on where it was launched from, but it does.
This has improved my searches a lot !
In this respect, it would be nice to classify the result by GMG section/subsection.
Thanks again

You're welcome, pleased it worked for you. It isn't an intuitive thing, someone told me about it 10 years ago and I just changed my habits.

It also works if you are looking for a particular post within a thread that has a keyword you can remember. If you search within the thread it will find that post easily. This helps a lot when you have been here 13 years!  :D :D
