What's going on with the avatars?

Avatars appear larger than usual now. Strange. What's going on here?

My avatar is still huge. No word from Rob? No word from any of the moderators about this? Am I the only one that sees that avatars are larger than they used to be?

I noticed it as well.  Had to shrink mine after saving.

Actually I might try a new one

No need for me to post that I haven't the vaguest idea what the deal is, but since I have been called out, I will say "I have no idea what the deal is". :-\

Just saw this thread, and I have no idea, either. Avatars look the same to me as they have been. That said, I have never seen a uniform size for them - some are slightly smaller or larger than others. I have always assumed that the forum software resizes any photos to best suit the purpose.

Yours does look the same, but mine is noticeably larger, as is John MI's and several others. The aspect ration is slightly different on mine too, being stretched out wider. You're right, the software does resize automatically, it just seems to be using a different algorithm to do it with these days.   :)

Yes, the forum software must have changed the algorithm adjusting the avatar sizes on the width/height of the images.

For some reason I keep thinking this was my fault because I experimented with gifs one time and maybe it screwed up avatar sizing :(

Yup, I figured it was you, but I didn't want to say anything... ;D

Nah, no worries, we have used gif's before with no problems. This is something bigger than that.

Seeing how Rob is Australian, wouldn't it be more accurate to say it goes all the way down under?

I miss the old aspect ratio of our avatars. :(

Tablet makes it wierder.  Rotation does change the forum layout some.
If I hold my tablet verticality, I see a square with all of Carl's upper body.
If I rotate it, the avatar becomes a rectangle larger than the square, but with only part of the avatar.  The left* shoulder and arm, and the tip of the left* ear, are completely cut off.

*Left in relation to Carl, right in relation to the viewer.

I did some searching on the smf's forum (not much, don't have a lot of time this morning), but could the maximum avatar size been changed causing this issue?  I doubt it's as simple as that, but it may be worth looking at..

It is a little know fact that the size of one's own avatar will appear to grow in size, only to the owner of the avatar, as his ego swells. It is a psychologically driven optical illusion.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.
