I listened to Parsecs No.1.

What I heard is, more or less, a rigid succession of mono-textured panels.

There are many issues, I think. First, you should work on making more interesting transitions. This process will include a more elaborate transformation of the original textures, i.e., not just the mere presentation of the texture.

Second, polyphony, i.e., more than one sound at a time. This also will make the textures more interesting and not simple and monochromatic as the ones in the piece. The elaboration of this polyphony also will help to make the transitions and the general shape of the piece.

So, in general, use all the resources we have from western music in combination with the new possibilities offered by this new electronic medium.

Thanks for the comment buddy, nice to see you here!  :)

The only pieces on my soundcloud that are finished are the two variations, which aren't perfect, everything else is still in production.
While I accept your advice, there are quite a few moments where I have multiple sounds overlapping eachother. I think I need to make it more noticeable in those areas.
The transitions are definitely rough, I will be working on that.   :)

My Parsecs cycle isn't a focus of mine but when the whole thing is finished, it will be a big cohesive whole of an experience!  ;D

One thing I really can't see myself ever doing is composing huge cycles of multiple compositions that form part of a massive whole. It's amazing that some people have such ambition to do that, but I feel like I could never spend loooooong periods of time working on something so massive. :o

Really? I guess it's part of who I am   (seriously though)

I sometimes give myself compositional challenges that make myself think "what the hell man?" afterwards  ???

At times, one should set challenges which seem too great at the moment.

Of course, one should not habitually set oneself up for failure, either  8)

I have quite a bit of music in the works at the moment. This includes a large orchestral work, a cycle of solo pieces, the Parsecs cycle.

I also have some folk rock (sort of in the direction of Tom Waits) and some progressive music.

Good! Just don´t let it starve, as I did with my blog. Post often and keep filling it!  :D

Is that picture a score of yours? I understand nothing, of course, but it looks pleasing to the eye.

No it's Xenakis, Palimpsest I think

It is that though. Architects have good handwriting.

Just an observation: do you feel that it's a good idea to call yourself a "Xenakis-fanboy" on your a blog that's supposed to promote your music? I think you really should disassociate yourself from calling yourself anything and let the listener decide for themselves. Since I'm mainly talking about your "About You" section, it really doesn't tell me a lot about yourself. Some background on your life and musical education so far would be much more beneficial for your readers. You do what you want, but I'm merely offering you a few suggestions.

Spot on there! All the other photos are from some of my (textural) orchestral scores :)

It's interesting to see these comments here from people who compose. I don't, and I can say quite clearly that I thoroughly enjoyed hearing what you do, for the energy and fun of it.  Don't stop.

I've been fixing and updating it whilst working on two pieces (Piano Sonata and String Quartet Bagatelles).
