NBC is refusing to call it, with Jones ahead by about 14,000 votes and 95 percent of the votes counted.

If the final margin of victory is less than 0.5%, there will be an automatic recount from what I gather.  But the Alabama Supreme Court stayed a lower court ruling to preserve digital voting records.  It's all so wonderfully messy.  I'm happy Jones won; this narrows the Senate majority and may lead to less getting done.  Of course, I would have been happy had Moore won, too.

Mitch McConnell and Jeb! have both called for Roy Moore to step down. That should be enough to propel Moore to victory, if any propulsion was necessary.

Oops. I was wrong!

Dems have shown their electoral mettle by defeating a child molester.  Just barely.

In a state that “grab them by the pussy” won by 28 points.

But I agree that this was a unique situation. Some R candidates are not child molesters, and most know not to say things like “even though we had slavery” out loud.

Personally, I don't believe the very specious claims by those two women but CNN got its way!

'Six women told The Washington Post that Moore pursued them in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Five were teenagers at the time, and one was 22. Moore, who denied misconduct but admitted to possibly dating high school girls, was in his early 30s at the time. One woman, Leigh Corfman, said she was 14 and Moore was 32 when he took her to his house, gave her alcohol and touched her sexually.'   https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/voters-head-to-the-polls-in-contentious-senate-race-in-alabama/2017/12/11/26e36b56-deb7-11e7-8679-a9728984779c_story.html?pushid=5a30b060edb3621d000000ca&tidr=notifi_push_breaking-news&utm_term=.0059ee3e13ca

Pro-abortionist is not a thing. It's pro-choice.
Pro-life people are pro-life until the child is born, after that they don't give a f**k and are ready to apply death penalty to the person some 20 years later. So, pro-life people are actually pro-misery.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.

Sure we can choose to do good or evil. This is called free will.
The real misery is behind the scenes of a grotesque billion dollar business, causing untold trauma.
A very small percentage of the 60 million in the US are from rape or life threatening danger to the mother.
Some women do, strange to report in such a narcissistic era, opt to give their lives for the unborn child.
This happened to a relative, albeit more than 50 years ago, a heroic lady.

The failing New York Times has called Alabama for Jones.  Dems have shown their electoral mettle by defeating a child molester.  Just barely.
It's apparently surprisingly hard to beat a child molester during a time when there is a multimillion dollar industry devoted to convincing large segments of the electorate that the child molestation never happened, and even if it did, you should vote for him anyway.

The group that stayed home was the Ayn Rand Paul Ryan libertarian-objectivist Chamber of Commerce small government republicans, the ones who don't care about culture wars but really want tax cuts, and that might have less to do with the child molestation and more to do with Moore's tax policy (he apparently favours a national sales tax or something? and said he'd vote against Obamacare repeal back in the primary? lol). The group who swung towards Doug Jones the most was moms. I guess they thought he was less likely to molest their daughters or something. And, obviously, it turns out black people will show up to vote for a civil rights hero and against someone who was endorsed by the KKK and thinks the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments should be repealed, even with the state putting as many roadblocks in their way as it possibly could.

Since I don't expect Roy Moore to go to prison despite really deserving to, expect a fun rematch in 2020, this time with Trump on the ballot. (Unless, etc.)

It would be bad form to send a vanquished political foe to prison.  It would make the US look too much like Argentina Norte.

Anderson Cooper says tweet calling Trump a ‘pathetic loser’ was not posted by him

So there are three possibilities here:

1.) Mr Cooper tweeted the message.
2.) One of Mr Cooper's assistants tweeted the message.
3.) Mr Cooper's account was hacked.  Perhaps by Russians.

These three possibilities imply:

1.) Mr Cooper is hopelessly biased.  This calls his judgment into question.
2.) Mr Cooper doesn't have good judgment in selecting assistants, which calls his overall judgment into question.
3.) Mr Cooper is too dumb to take even the simplest security measures.  (Unless it was the Russians.)  This calls his judgment into question.

Come on Anderson, just fess up.  Everyone knows Comedy News Network is biased.

Obviously, it was the Russians.

The antisemitic, homophobic child molester was still the overwhelming Republican favorite:

Let’s not forget, however, that Moore, a disgraced former judge (twice booted from the court) and an accused child molester who is openly racist and homophobic — received 91 percent of the Republican vote. Republicans, at least in Alabama, remain deeply mired in their theology of white grievance and largely indifferent, if not hostile, to reality. Republicans were not persuaded; they were outvoted. Should they persist in their [Tupero] cult and refuse to emerge from their right-wing media bubble, they face being outvoted again and again by enraged non-Republicans — and in places far less Republican than Alabama.
