Why can't we all just get along?
Offenbach gets a raw deal in recordings considering his talent! For a discussion of this outstanding composer too little recorded: http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,5572.

At first, I misread this as referring to Stockhausen's Klavierstuck IX, and wondered about the sight of a cat throwing its whole body against a keyboard over 100 times in succession.

Better to ask about "the cats fugue".

Yes, it's awesome (but like that for theory related reasons), incidentally another one of the first pieces of classical music I LOVED

No, it's 139 eighth notes followed by a dotted quarter. In a continuous diminuendo.

The real ludicrous question is, what if you lose count? Do you have to start over again? If you play only 138 eighth notes, will it make a huge difference? What if you accidentally make a crescendo between the 71st and 72nd eighth notes? What if you don't play the eighth notes evenly and one is a dotted eighth note instead? Do you have to make the next note a sixteenth to catch up?
