GMG not secure?
« on: May 23, 2017, 02:17:40 AM »
The url shows this site "not secure." Could I have my mind stolen?

Is this a concern? Or not...?

This site is just unencrypted. My browser says this site has a clean security record. I wouldn't be worried. Why on Earth would hackers attack GMG, a weird place for weird people listening to weird music when they can hack Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. with MILLIONS of users?
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Yes, why should they....

But you never know, some people just want to annoy others, The CMG (Classical Music Forum) was hacked about two years ago, and large amounts of posts were lost.

I was just about to say that Amazon has taken all my money, several times, via GMG.

Imagine the shock and horror some experience when seeing their favorite Beethoven piano sonatas cycle changed from Annie Fischer to Ronald Brautigam, or viceversa. Heart attack stuff.  ;D

Actually my wife and daughter consider me very weird and my devotion to this site and formerly to an American online cat group as evidence of it.

As I recall it happened. I seem to recall that at one point we were asked to make our screen names different than our user names to foil some sort of attack where where a bot was bogging down the site by trying to guess our passwords. Or was that another site?

No, that was here. But the key thing is just what you say: an attack was foiled, the bot was trying to guess our passwords.

Far more tragic than the loss of data at CMG (they were after mine, I think) was the total destruction of the Mozart Forum, one of the finest information sites on the entire Interwebs dedicated to Mozart. It was a trove of super information, and many of the members were names you would recognize from your library. I don't know what precipitated it, but in the end it was simply gone (except for the stuff I fortunately downloaded back when I could). :(

I recall the first classical music site I participated in was "Classical Insites." which also vanished when its host, "Music Boulevard" was bought out by CDnow.com. Music Boulevard was an early e-commerce site (before Amazon dominance). A bit of a shock since lots of content contributed by users vanished without a trace. I think there may even be one or two people here who I first encountered there.

I have no recollection of any hacking of GMG. Maybe it happened while I wasn't very active here? I believe there has been months when I haven't visited the board at all!  ???

If you ever read a post by me praising  Brahms's First Piano Concerto or DSCH's  Leningrad Symphony , then immediately turn off your computer. ..  ;D

Can either be compared to that stunning masterpiece, La Mer?

Marco Polo is dark blue and Naxos is white. I prefer white.  8)

I can also discuss cats for hours on end. 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
The two interests can be combined:
Rawsthorne's 'Practical Cats'
Hovhannes's 'Fred the Cat'
