What happened to the ASIN numbers on Amazon?
« on: June 22, 2017, 09:38:25 AM »
Last night and this morning, when looking up recordings on AmazonUS, I noticed that the ASIN numbers seem to have completely disappeared from the item pages, although they are still available because they form part of the item page URL.

Anyone know why, how long it will last, etc?

[Just to be sure, I checked through my tablet with Chrome for Android, and on a desktop PC with Chrome for PC and IE, so it's not a problem with the browser.]

[Selected this subforum because the problem directly impacts on the use of the ASIN tags.]

I don't know.
The UK site still has them as part of the 'Product details', although I know that doesn't help you much either. ;D
Maybe it's just a glitch. A few months ago the search field was missing from the UK site for a few days before returning unannounced.

I noticed that as well (at leaat for the US, Spanish and German sites). A pity, because it prevents (or at least complicates) using the amazon link function to post recordings, and also hinders one's using the ASIN numbers to compare prices from one site to another...let's hope it's just temporary.

Hmm,  Nik is correct.

In fact, for some item pages, the whole section for "Product Details" is missing.  For others, the section is present but with no ASIN.

I noticed that ASIN and product details have disappeared from CD listings, but not from other types of items I have in my cart (small appliances, etc). Possibly they decided that product details contain useful information for some items, but are just clutter for audio CDs.

I hadn't noticed, because I use the ASIN from the URL at the top, but you're right, and it is unfortunate.  I always liked to be able to see the length of a CD in the product information in case there was no reverse scan (or if that didn't have the info).

We could write en masse to amazon customer service and complain.
Struck by the sounds before the sun,
I knew the night had gone.
The morning breeze like a bugle blew
Against the drums of dawn.

The "advanced search" option dissapeared a while ago as well...

I used that to search on label in particular, very handy. But I guess Amazon can't be bothered...

For Amazon.co.uk the link to advanced search is

It's interesting that 10 years ago these things just worked.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I noticed too.  One thing I am sure of, it's not that they can't be bothered. If they dropped a section it's to use the space for something they find more valuable. Amazon is the best in the world at that kind of optimization. Anyone notice all the sponsored links for example.

The classical forum at amazon.com is dissolving now as well, due to amazon's removal of features and heavyhanded moderation. Most users seem to be moving to TC.

ASIN codes seem to have returned (at least as the pages appear when I visit).
