Fedir Stepanovych [Theodore] Akimenko [1876-1945]
« on: September 13, 2017, 11:45:51 PM »
Ukranian composer, he was also Stravinsky's first teacher of composition.
His parents sent him to St.Petersburg to sing in the Imperial Choir, along with his brother.
He later studied under Balakirev, Lyapunov, and Rimsky-Korsakov.
He was a touring pianist - especially in France and Switzerland.
During World War I he was a composition teacher at the St.Petersburg Conservatory - where he remained until 1923. Later he moved to Prague.  He resided in France from 1928 until he died. He wrote to friends how upset he was when Nazi Germany invaded his adopted home and later Ukraine.
