I only buy recordings which aren't available from Qobuz streaming, or can't get from friends who are willing to share, so very few

Two of my biggest purchases size-wise this year were the Messiaen Edition (18 discs) and Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (14 discs; Neuhold conducting).

One of the new composers to my collection this year was George Dyson. I bought 3 recordings of his music this year. The Symphony in G (Lloyd-Jones), The Canterbury Pilgrims (Hickox) and recently the Choral Symphony/St. Paul's Voyage to Melita (D. Hill).

It was great to finally be able to complete the Villa-Lobos symphony cycle which I've been following since 2012. In fact, I'm listening to Symphony No. 1 as I write this.

Apart from 2017 releases or reissues (as reported here, these are my purchases this year that stand out:

A fantastic singer (mostly) in music I admire a lot...

Some late choral works by Ernesto Halffter, plus a superb performance of his Sinfonietta.

Never been much of a fan of Leonard Bernstein, but this Rosenkavalier is a great achievement. I owned it on LP ages ago, and finally bought the CD transfer.

Some echt Richard Strauss recordings, by a conductor I've always felt very attuned to.

Some of Villa-Lobos's SQs--all new to me--are fantastic (others IMHO rather less so, to put it mildly).

Hat tip to North Star for this one...

This just arrived this week, but the Maderna's performance of Jeux has bowled me over...

I'm using "purchases" more loosely to mean "acquisitions" because reasons >.>

this is basically the other list, cut down to the absolute essentials:

What follows are my favorites that were newly released in 2017. I will later on post my favorites purchased this year of discs released in previous years.
I don't really have a stand alone top choice in this bunch, but did purposely put the two Mendelssohn albums first as I have been enjoying these tremendously. But they are all great to my ears.
And being Philip Glass' 80th year there were a lot of releases of his music, I find these two (Olafsson and Batagov) that presented his etudes in completely different styles were among the best.

Admirers of Hinrich's art may want to help her make her next recording,

I'll just comment that I'm not happy to fund campaigns where there's a line built in for artists' fees, albeit a modest one like this!

I have a sneaking suspicion that this disc is going to make my list:

I've mostly been doing streaming and have bought very few discs or downloads this year.

DXD download from nativedsd.com
https://channelclassics.nativedsd.com/albums/38817-mahler-symphony-no-3-in-dminor

Catching up with a Kertesz reissue from 2012

Francescatti plays Sibelius and Bruch.  This was also included in the remastered Bernstein Sibelius symphonies set.

FLAC download from Hyperion is 5 pounds:
https://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA67674

I downloaded the 24/96 files of Symphony No. 1 from the BSO.  I hadn't had a chance to re-listen to this until recently and was very impressed on second and third listen.  I do intend to get the rest.

The only other one I'm aware of is snyprrr's award thread.  I thought I'd put my favorite things that I hadn't purchased (yet) on that one.
