You can elect to not let others see if you're online, and this will also hide you in these notifications. If someone appears to be offline just after their post has appeared, that's a pretty good hint that they're hiding.

The members, which you never see online, but which none-the-less post regularly, are the ones you can expect to be the hidden members. From my point of view I cannot see the point of being hidden. On the contrary it may be useful to be able to see, that a given member is going to post an answer to some other post.

No, I do not hide.

Not that there is anything wrong with anyone hiding . . . .

I think the psychology of it is hard to understand and probably a bit complicated. It would be nice if a hider would come and explain why.

I’ll freely admit that I’m one of the members that ‘hides’ and one of the reasons, which, may or may not make sense to any of you, is that I don’t like being tracked by other members. I know that moderators probably know what I’m up to, but I have no control over that. Also, to further elaborate on this, many seasons ago, I was being tracked and harassed by another member who would appear after every post I made to contradict everything I say and basically bully me. I got fed up with it, so I decided to go into hiding. This member is gone now (thankfully!), but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from this experience so I kept myself in hiding ever since.

This wouldn't bother me at all.

And I am not active in the forum all the time I am logged on. I just don't log off for practical reasons.

I sometimes get a message like 'vandermolen and nine guests are reading this topic' . I've only just noticed the 'hidden' option.

What a horrible experience for you.

Aha, that Josquin guy. Those ghosts from the Renaissance can be a nuisance.

I thought it was Saul, since i by chance saw some strange old comments from him about GMG in another forum.
