The photojournalist Abbas from Magnum passed away.  This is a photo he took in 1978 in South Africa at the time of the apparteid.  Amazing.  There are things that have improved in this world.

Nice ! Looks so...parisian. Very fitting that the book she’s holding has Amour in its title !  ;D

It's Francoise Hardy, so definitely Parisian.  8) I was trying to figure out what is the book; it's by Andre Breton and has amour in the title but it doesn't seem to be L'Amour Fou ...

Here.

Is that the most inefficient CD storage unit you've ever seen? Iran must be in tough shape, if sanctions prevented them from ordering a CD cabinet from IKEA and that is the best they could come up with. :)

So there was the catch, my brain went straight for Andre when I read Breton. Thanks!

Yeah, nice shot. And she's holding what appears to be a Minolta 16 or similar.
(Note: to experience the image quality produced by that camera, push tri-x to about 25600, dump in r09 at 1:1, agitate by kicking it around every five minutes, fix for a week or so in kosher salt, dry off using 40 to 60 grit sandpaper, and then finally, glue the resulting negative directly to your eyeballs)

Thread duty? -

I like this photo because that child doesn't give a damn about the environment it is in (yet) and also, it could have been me.

The photo is by Nick Hedges. There are other examples of that aspect of his work here - http://www.shelterscotland.org/lifeworthliving

His own site is http://www.nickhedgesphotography.co.uk

I was thinking of putting this in the photography thread, but I believe it deserves a wider audience.

That's a good shot. :) I hadn't seen it before.
When I think of Karsh it's usually the iconic (in the UK anyway) portrait of Churchill. Or the one of Hemingway wearing the turtleneck with what looks like half a dozen lights on him. ;D

There was a Karsh exhibit at the MFA in Boston during my tenure at the Gift Shop;  it was a constant pleasure.

I bet it was. :)
And a coincidence with you mentioning the Boston MFA, because on my desk right now -
