More baroque violin from a modern view

Edison Denisov
Partita, pour violon et orchestre (after Bach's Partita BWV1004) (1981)

1. Allemande
2. Courante
3. Sarabande
4. Gigue
5. Chaconne

Orchestre de chambre de Toulouse
Alain Moglia, violinist and conductor

(I was about to upload this and discovered it is already available)

When I click on the links it opens the music file right away, but I can't download it on the computer. How can I save it ?

I use Windows XP with Firefox. If I right click on the link I get a new menu from which I choose "Download link as...".

VIDEO

Gidon Kremer plays Shostakovich's first violin concerto at the Proms.
I'm afraid it's not a complete recording: the first movement is missing entirely as well as the first 5 minutes of the Scherzo. This video includes the last minutes of the Scherzo, the whole Passacaglia, Cadenza, Burleske and one encore (one of Ysaye solo sonatas).

For those of you who missed it, here's the audio-only (MP3, 192kbps) version of the First Night of the 2007 BBC Proms. It's been divided (by me) into eight files covering three works/nine movements (I preserved as one file the attacca playing between the 1st and 2nd movement of the Elgar Cello Concerto). Everything's been tagged, album art has been added, and it all plays as one 'album'. Oh, and my editing means no boring yada yada from the presenters, and no coughing from the audience between movements/performances.

File 1 - Walton: Portsmouth Point Overture

File 2 - Elgar: Cello Concerto (1st & 2nd Mvts)

File 3 - Elgar: Cello Concerto (3rd Mvt)

File 4 - Elgar: Cello Concerto (4th Mvt)

File 5 - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (1st Mvt)

File 6 - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (2nd Mvt)

File 7 - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (3rd Mvt)

File 8 - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (4th Mvt)

Full details about the evening are here: First Night of the BBC Proms 2007

Enjoy. ;)

PS: I'm not promising anything, but I may upload the full evening as a video at some point. And I may well upload more broadcasts from the season in due course.

No takers for the Shostakovich video?

Come one, Kremer plays from the score there, but it's a great video anyway.

For those of you who have missed it (until just now - I have), Mark is posting his Proms recordings in this thread:

http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,2164.new.html

On a similar note: will anybody be recording the Bayreuth festival next week? And if so, could they promise to post their recordings here? Pretty please?

I've also posted quite a few new links on various threads here and there, so now I'm cross-posting them here (I find it impossible to follow everything that's happening at GMG, and I'm sure I'm not the only one) plus just collecting all the other links that still work. Listed alphabetically by composer name. Sorry for the size of this - just needed to get it posted somewhere in one place - I'll do it in installments as not to fill up the entire page with one post:

RapidShare cut the file name short - after downloading you have to add ".flac" at the end of the file name (by renaming the file) for it to work properly.

The file name proved to be too long for RapidShare, so it has cut off the extension. Therefore you have to add the ".mp3" extension after downloading (by renaming the file).
