I've never really gotten into Beethoven's 2nd, what are some good recordings?

Both Mackerras cycles are excellent HIP recordings on modern instruments.

They'd have been my two choices as well along with the Cluytens/BPO. And I agree with Dirk - Marriner's Eroica is very good so I'd imagine his 2nd could also rate well.

The best version I ever heard:
Monteux, with the NDR Orchestra.

But Cluytens with the BPO and Karajan with the BPO (1962) are very good.

The version of Gardiner is curious and intersting.

Seems to me I've seen you recommend this performance before, val. I guess it's time for me to track it down and hear it for myself.
