It's not cheating if you're not even playing the same game.

George

I picked the Heads.

I have most of the Police albums and only the Sand in the Vasoline Heads set (and Naked) but I think they are better than the Police.

I picked Devo. And yes, they did more and better than "Whip It."

George, heck, if you like the Beatles, you should at least check out Squeeze or Blondie. Maybe some greatest hits CDs. It might be too peppy for you though, based on what I know of your taste in pop.

[Edit: Never mind. You like XTC, right? You should be okay then.]

I chose the Heads George.  Was not that difficult of a decision due to the fact that I enjoy their albums from start to finish, while the other bands I can find myself occasionally skipping tracks now and then.  Funny thing is, I have barely anything on the shelf of what I once had of these bands.  I tend to play their music so infrequently these days that I dumped most of my cds of this genre many moons ago.  About the only bands that have survived this dumping to this point are Peter Gabriel (which I dumped my cds of once and re-bought), Dire Straits, and of course, The Beatles.

Who are these "other bands" and which albums are you talking about?

Some of the bands that I mentioned in my first list Dave.  For example, I may skip around on this album:

but not on this one:

You should do a prog rock poll, then I can choose Rush or Genesis.  ;D

I love Squeeze and Blondie is OK in small doses. Paul Carrack is excellent, I love his soulful voice. I just bought a download of "How Long" after hearing it at work.

It doesn't get much better than "2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx."  8)

Yeah, most people are okay with a Blondie hits collection. What about Joe Jackson?

MN Dave

Wow. Someone voted for Devo besides me. That's a rarity. Wonder who it was.

He's great! I have the 2CD greatest hits.

longears

Talking Heads, George.  Musically the most interesting to me and they hold up well.  Costello was brilliant, though, at least through Imperial Bedroom.  The Pretenders weren't really New Wave, but real rockers whose first album breathed new life into a mouldering art form.  I still put that on and crank it up to 11 sometimes.  And Stewart Copland (Copeland?) of the Police gets my vote for best rock drummer of all time.

Well, he sure was a busy drummer anyway...  ;)

I think my understanding of New Wave is pretty skewed  ::) The Police? Elvis Costello?  ???

I'd think of names like Depeche Mode.
