After Sarge, 2010 at this concert, I have now met my second fellow GMG'er, Wanderer -- alas, not in connection to a concert but over beers at a dive. Capital fellow, indeed.

Granted, as far as dives are concerned, it's probably upscale.  ;D There are a good many, even in Vienna, that fit the bill better. But it's always good to undersell.

Amen! One of the nicest, most genial and amiable fellows I've ever met in my whole life.

Nice thread. I have met with Christo (my namesake and fellow Dutchman Johan), Herman, a fellow novelist I got to know on this board (!), Dundonnell (Colin), Brian, Knightxx (forget the number), André, Luke Ottevanger and Vandermolen (Jeffrey), and a John who sometimes appears on the Havergal Brian thread. I treasure the memories!
P.S. I started out with the moniker Jezetha.

My son and I had a meal at the same italian restaurant we went together, Johan  ;). BTW, wasn’t that Gatti who conducted the Mahler 5th that night ?  ???

I hope the meal was just as good! And you're right: it was Gatti in Mahler's Fifth!

Never met any of the posters.

Although I can't furnish you all with a telling picture, I just want to report I had a great evening with Brett Stewart (Catison). It was non-stop talking from 7 PM till past midnight, interrupted only by pizza, coffee and drink (hot chocolate for me, beer for Brett). An incredible amount of topics was touched, from Star Wars to Seinfeld, the merits of Bernard Herrmann vs. John Williams, Aquinas, G.M. Hopkins, Dutch history, brassbands in Texas, the wondrous world of GMG...

I have offered Brett to show him around Amsterdam, which we probably will do next weekend.
