In this case what difference would a physical recording make? :)
However, I do see where you're coming from. We are spoilt for choice but sometimes I wonder whether our ancestors, who did not own a single recording of anything and who heard nothing but live music, played either by themselves or by a close relative or friend or in a concert, did not have a more profound and existentially meaningful relationship with music...
We routinely analyze and compare 50 different recordings of, say, a Mozart opera or a Beethoven piano sonata --- but imagine, if you can, those times when hearing them was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

When this idle thought crossed my mind, in fact it did so with the name of another composer. However I felt there was no need to provoke the enthusiasts of that composer, so I nominated instead of composer whom I enjoy and admire.

We might have to build up civilization from the ruins. So much of classical literature and plays were lost in the fires of the Alexandrian library, which apparently happened several times.

If and when electricity did go off for (a) good (many decades), printed scores and musical instruments would be much more helpful than CDs in building up our civilization anew. ;D
