Title: UK Violist, Composer and Coffee lover, aged 17
Post by: ElliotViola on February 28, 2012, 03:38:39 AM
Dear all,

I'm a young Violist, looking to spread the love of the instrument to all those ignorant people out there who think it's smaller than a violin...

No really, a lot of people do. I've had it loads.

Bit of background, I am 17, lived in Brighton, UK all of my life, and am INCREDIBLY stoked about the upcoming Igudesman and Joo concert at the Cadogan hall on the 9th March (seriously, go and check them out if you don't know them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifKKlhYF53w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifKKlhYF53w) and buy a ticket here: www.cadoganhall.com/showpage.php?pid=1677 (http://www.cadoganhall.com/showpage.php?pid=1677) ) :P

I compose in the Romantic style, and love Liszt, Rachmanninov, and also Bartok and Scriabin. I'm also rather enamoured with Arnold Bax.

Anyway, I'm hoping that we can have many many amazing discussions on this fantastic-looking forum. Long live Bach!

Welcome and enjoy! I recently ordered a disc of Viola works by Vaughan Williams and McEwen (a Lethe rec I think), which looks quite interesting.

Question: Why are viola jokes so short?
Answer: So violinists can understand them! :)

Welcome, I hope you will enjoy the forum! :) That's great you play the viola, it is a beautiful instrument, with an ecnhanting sound.

So glad to hear you love Liszt and Rachmaninov, they are two of my absolute favourite composers; also Bach is amazing though. I think we can get on well. ;D

This phrase is still getting as customary as saying "good morning". :)

Hello and welcome!

First things first: I hope you like Mahler! :D

Oh, I love the viola so much! One of my favourite instruments perhaps, such a beautiful tone!

I am also a composer, and at the age of 14, it is my ambition to be a composer and conductor for my life! There's a good section of the forum dedicated to it's composers called 'Composing and Performing'. Hopefully you'll make your own page there sometime. Mine is called 'Hogan's Home'. :) I hope we can hear some of your music soon! I also used to compose in the romantic style, and still can't stop myself from doing so sometimes. And the composers you mention are some of my favourites, so we should get along well! :)

Thanks for the introduction, Elliot!
Best Wishes,
Daniel

p.s Tea is amazing! ;D

Welcome to the forum. My favorite viola-heavy work is Bartók's Viola Concerto.
