Title: Hello
Post by: Jamie on November 05, 2017, 12:01:24 PM
Greetings good people,
I have enjoyed many entertaining and informative discussions on this forum and will continue to do so in a slightly, very slightly, less anonymous fashion, as a member.
My opinions are often fickle and uninformed but I take much pleasure in listening to the music and look forward to being part of a community that shares that pleasure.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
As to favourite composers, all too many to choose from. Some that I return to for the enduring pleasure they give no matter what other direction my ears may lead are Ravel, Shostakovich, Webern, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Beethoven (most often the string quartets, piano sonatas), Bach, J.S., Cage, Stravinsky, Schubert, Liszt, and in the past year many English composers have become favourites, among them Arnold, Williams, Holst, Delius, Bax. And many more.
The luxury of music streaming services, that allow almost endless opportunities to sample pieces and performances is a wonder to a novice such as me.
I look forward to finding my way around and participating.

Welcome to GMG, Jamie! A fine list of favourites indeed!

Yes, with places like Youtube, Spotify, Naxos Music Library, hearing new works and performances has become infinitely easier.
