Absolutely fucking disgusting.

The crying is classic small child attention seeking fake crying. (I do find it hilarious hearing all the crying men in sympathyin front of him). But it really is disgusting...

On a lighter note:

Just trying out Rob's new feature embedding the YouTube code.  This is Ligeti's Artikulation, and someone has synched the score to match the music.

Yes, that's it: you have to alter the code slightly from how it appears when you are actually on YouTube.  D Minor, if you still can't get it to work, would you like me to try tinkering with the post?

Title: Re: YOUTUBE thread

It's not a professional recording.  the sound was captured with a camcorder's microphone.  but several people told me guitar did sound muddy.

next time, during the sound check, I'll step off the stage and take a listen for myself--I have a very long cable.  I never trust sound guys--they either don't care or want to piss me off.

Like sometimes, I go to the concert, and a dude is playing a solo, but the rhythm guitar is twice as loud.  I dunno...

I have no clue how this instrument works.  but i assume there're a lot of pre-programmed patches that she selects with foot switches.  This is a late-90's instrument, I believe.  What's amazing is that the instruments sound real!  Except trumpets in certain spots, and others here and there, it doesn't sound like a midi game soundtrack at all!

the only thing fake about violin/cello is the vibrato.  It shouldnt be even.  it should start sanz vibrato, then slowly add a little bit and then add more and more.
seems obvious to me.  having an organ vibrato-like sound is always gonna be fake.

if somone speaks German, then the clips aren't funny at all, they are just stupid.

Well, I did forward the first one to a friend who does speak German, and he found it just as funny. It's a matter of "filtering out" the language you know, to get the joke. And isn't it about having a laugh, rather than semantic deconstruction, after all? ;)

The video, or my reply? Because the dubbing in that clip was one of the best and (perhaps "accidentally") most brilliant internet parodies I have encountered, so far.

(And my comment was intended to reflect that, as well: I laughed to my heart's content, albeit a liitle guiltily...)

sorry.  I meant the video of course.  I thought it was stupid, maybe because I dont speak German.

Not to mention I'm now embarassed even further about my lack of skill with this sort of software. Probably some sort of subconscious "jam". :(

Beware of those with a disproportional sense both of grievance and entitlement, e.g., those having suffered the alleged humilation of Treaty of Versailles or the deep insult felt by members of El-Qaida.

This might be a good chat subject--groups who feel they are persecuted and think they deserve special privileges, or think they have a right to act out.

The entire history of the internet has led up to this moment.  I have found the ultimate musical experience!

( That is, if you have spent your entire life searching for the Asian Country Karaoke Jim Morrison.)

The burst of emotion at 00:37 is truly a work of transcendental genius.

Now I can only hope that someone out there will fund Mr. Wong to start in the full remake of the original video, which is lacking the same smoldering erotic intensity....

German censorship?
It sure is available here.
All sorts of 'connections' between Japanese and Finns, and other neo national socialist propaganda. The description, 14/88, is a reference to a passage in Mein Kampf. (searced, didn't know before)
The song is by finnish prog folk band Tenhi. (after searching the words)

Oh - those politicians are quite good with their filters, aren't they? It is "racist" material in a sense, but of the kooky type - it was an attempt to claim that the Japanese were white with "evidence". I could dl it and mirror the flv if you're interested - it really is quite funny in a bizarre irrational way.

That video isn't even nearly as bizarre as the 6th page of comments on that video- a couple of asian people arguing in horrible English, using profanity that doesn't even make sense.
Even if there is a connection, it's so small to be negligible. And did they say Finnish and Japanese are related? Other than some phonetic similarities, there is no confirmed relation, other than what the maker of the video made up.  ::)

The Ainu thing is beyond ridiculous, as a minority they were long since absorbed by the Chinese-by-way-of-Korea ancestors that form the Japanese population nowadays. I'm not sure what the deal is with so many Japanese people being unable to accept an obvious common ancestry with their neighbours who look almost identical to them - it's a strange kind of delusion. I've seen "theories" put forward that Japanese people developed from apes somehow magically on their own, un-touched by Korean cooties ::)

It's not outstanding I guess, but it's healthy to be reminded that a sizable fraction of this planet is completely insane. Usually I get my fix from the Scientology/Reptilian, etc videos that rise to the surface, but it's nice to have a change of pace. The music and random photo of a black metal musician in the middle give a particularly bizarre edge.

Since I surf the internet every day I find plenty of reminders how insane it is out there.

I understand now why I couldn't watch it. Anything connected to Nazi propaganda is outlawed...and perhaps for good reason. I'm torn between my belief that everyone should have the right to freedom of expression and the realization that a certain type of expression can lead to horror.

What is really funny (not funny, but you know what I mean) is that these nut cases try to make a genetic connection to prove purity and brotherhood but overlook the fact that all of us are descendants of the same stock. All human beings are related.

Indeedie, and by focusing on biology they basically harm the "culture" they are supposedly trying to preserve anyway. I am genetically not at all English (no need for fancy family trees for that, my parents/grandparents lived elsewhere), and yet identify with and understand this country more than most of the native population.

Ok, I spoiled your post a bit, but I really enjoyed it to some degree. It's too overacted to my taste. The girl is aggressive in her acting rather than in her role. Is this to trick you as a watcher? This kind of "fun" has often that negative aspect in it to me. It's not authentic.

Ummm... sounds like you don't understand the video- for clarification, there is a show called "Maury" in the US, which features many low-lifes, such as young girls that get pregnant and rebel against their parents. This video is just a joke making fun of it by exaggerating something like that to the extreme.

Interesting. Sort of a combination love song/drinking song. I needed the subtitles to know what it was about. It would be hard to make this ditty work with English lyrics.

I know Jeanne Moreau was a talented actress, but this is the only thing I've ever heard her sing and her tone sounds too nasally for me. Are her recordings more impressive?
