Title: Chopin/Godowski etudes explained & played!
Post by: Brian on December 30, 2014, 05:58:17 AM
Aussie pianist David Stanhope is releasing a new CD of the Chopin/Godowski etudes Op. 10, and he is also releasing a YouTube video series that's a lot of fun to watch.

Plus, he's a fairly amusing presenter, and not at all awkward. I recommend these. Click the video to view the others in the series.

  • Explanation of what makes the original Chopin etude so hard, with examples
  • Performance of the Chopin original
  • Explanation of the fiendish new twists Godowsky adds, with examples
  • Performance of the Godowski version

Very interesting. Would also suggest reading the booklet that accompanies the Hyperion recording, which goes etude by etude and is also very informative. It is free on the hyperion website.
