Title: Classical Merch? a less common question
Post by: Thatfabulousalien on March 15, 2017, 08:38:21 PM
Soooooo, I've been wanting to get a tshirt or two of some of my favorite composers (like metalheads/rock fans/pop fans and jazz fans have).

From google searches, the results aren't good. Any suggestions or even recommended custom Tshirt sites?

Btw, I so want a Xenakis Phillips Pavillion tee and the classic Varese picture to show off  :P

Aka, the most badass looking composer since himself!  8)

I used to have a Gustav Mahler T-shirt many years ago in my college days.  I think it got worn out. :)

I still have a piano-key-colored scarf that I wear on very very cold days. 8)

I think the Chicago Symphony's famous Mahler T-shirt, photo of Mahler with the meme, "More Cowbell!" or spin-offs of it, are still available.  Search Mahler, and / or 'More Cowbell.'

For the others, you're best off taking a photo of your desired image, adding whatever text you want, if any, and looking for a company who make iron-on transfers from your photo.  IF you can find a shop with one of those large scanner-photo machines, those make iron-on transfers on the spot, and you can then apply it to whatever garment you wish.

https://www.google.com/search?q=Mahler+T-shirt+more+cowbell&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjdot79_NvSAhUKySYKHUjwDTsQ_AUICigD&biw=1143&bih=563

This used to be in circulation - it seems no more.  Again, think about an iron-on transfer if you want it.
I don't wear T's or clothing with writing on it.  If I did, I like this one :-)

For custom T's from nearer your quarter of the planet, I found this by searching 'T shirts Australia'
https://www.spreadshirt.com.au/custom-t-shirts-C8579?gclid=Cj0KEQjw76jGBRDm1K-X_LnrmuEBEiQA8RXYZxFH1Qr7fIWUofII7u0ZHUofgo8_kx_j0-1osP8WoTIaAkuy8P8HAQ&affiliateID=8499&s_kwcid=AL!312!3!156279718980!e!!g!!custom%20t%20shirts%20australia&ef_id=WBtuPAAAAD2RpLH4:20170316215430:s

Happy hunting.  Please take pics and show us results of any you've made!

Best regards.

P.s.  The third image below, Alban Berg as Lulu, is of my own doing.  You are welcome to it.  You'll have to add Alban Berg as Lulu, -- Just now thought, like a PR poster for an opera performer, Alban Berg is Lulu! -- or whatever text you want.

I've got a Shostakovich t-shirt, but I'd like to have a few others. The Mahler ("More Cowbell") looks cool.

Any search I did led me to zazzle.com. It has all the big composer names and they do custom as well. Never heard of them until today, but haven't looked for something like this in years either.

Zazzle is a cool site. I just designed my own Bartók shirt, so we'll see how it turns out!

Here's an idea of what it might look like:

It looks good, the title underneath the smaller sized image is quite visually appealing  :)

Thanks, I'm working on one of Charles Ives now. 8) Let me know when you get a Xenakis one done. :)

One of the things I was going for whenever I was trying to come up with something for Bartok is that 'metal band' type of look. Since Bartok predates anything metal, I figured it would be cool to have a shirt designed this way. Kind of gothic in a sense. Maybe some metalhead will ask me "Who is that?" 8)

Thanks, man. I just bought the Ives one.

Similar for me actually with the Xenakis shirt, I'm going to have a complete list of works on the back to (instead of a list of cities like a tour shirt)

I'm trying to put my editing skills to test and meld a bunch of different Xenakis images together...I'll take my time on that.

With the Varese, whether you like Varese or not, he looks fucking badass (like Bartok) their music matches their look really well obviously too.  :D

I love Varese and, yes, he has that 'mad scientist' look that will do quite well on a shirt. 8) Bitchin' cool. :) Yeah, take your time on the Xenakis. That's a good idea about the works on the back of the shirt. Cool idea.

I have to thank you, Neal, for this post as Zazzle does excellent work. What I love about them is designing my own shirts with images that I've found on the internet.

Glad it worked out. The one thing that I am always a bit leery about is how it washes. Sometimes it starts to wash out within just a few washings (hopefully zazzle will be a better quality one). So let us know! :)

I've washed all of my shirts (or the shirts I've received so far) in cold water and they did great. Zazzle does quality work.

If my Varese doesn't arrive today I'm contacting them, there is no tracking either, which is.....frustrating  :-\

Zazzle is based out of the US, Alien. I'm not sure they offer tracking to their customers from overseas. Yes, definitely contact them.

It's mid afternoon over here and I still haven't received it, so I've sent their customer services an inquiry  :-X

How long has it been since you placed the order?

I think I've just finished designing my last composer shirt: Carl Nielsen. My buddy North Star (Karlo) helped me with this one.

P.S. This is Nielsen's real signature.

Any news on your shirt, Alien?
