Title: Handel's Messiah edited by Prout
Post by: nimrod79 on December 12, 2009, 04:13:47 AM
Does anyone know if there exists a recording of the Ebenezer Prout edition of Handel's Messiah, performed without any alterations made by the conductor?  The ones I have come across, such as those by Andrew Davis and Leonard Bernstein, freely adapt Prout's edition.  I have yet to find one that simply plays the score without any alterations though, and was curious if such a recording even exists.  While it certainly cannot supplant Handel's original, scaled down score, I have always been interested in the various versions (Mozart, Goosens) of the piece, and have actually played the Prout edition in a community group.
