Title: Deleting posts, still marked as "new replies"
Post by: Madiel on August 27, 2017, 01:24:20 PM
Hi,

I am reasonably confident I have deleted all of my posts from the "One Word Posts" thread. It is still getting marked as a topic I've posted in and still showing up in the "Show new replies to your posts" options.

Can the mods/admins do any or all of the following:

1. Verify that there are no longer any posts of mine in the thread.
2. Fix the metadata so that it does not claim I have posted in the thread.
3. Lock the thread and start a new one of that game.

Thanks and regards.

I'd like some kind of indication this has been read. Or should I be messaging the mods/admins instead?

I searched the thread for your name. I didn't find any original posts by you, but I did find some posts where you were quoted. Since the thread is of no importance, I deleted those posts. If you are still getting the notices, then it is not based on you still having any posts there. It is probably some flag that is set internally in the database. Since I assume that you already took the simple step of canceling the notifications, if you ARE still getting them, then it may be a job for the Admin, since Mods can't access the blood and guts. Best I can do...

PS - messaging us may be more efficient. It is possible I am the only one who saw this, and my mind is on hurricanes right now... :-\

Thanks.

I'm not talking about email notifications, just the "show new replies" option here on the website. It would be GREAT if there was an option to cancel threads displaying there, but when I asked a couple of years ago I was told this option didn't exist.

Thanks.

You really should've posted this in the One Word Posts thread.

The thread is still showing up as if I had posts in it. So Admin it is.

You ARE talking about  "Show new replies to your posts." yes? I don't know exactly how that one should behave, all I have used in 14 years is "Show unread posts since last visit." No matter, I can assure you that no Mod can change that behavior at this point, although I am thinking that the Admin can.  Of course, I would take great pleasure in deleting the thread, which would solve the problem nicely....   :D

Hey now, I am the proud creator of the most polarizing thread with over 500 pages! I'm quite proud of this.  :)

It's nothing personal, Greg, I'm just at the other pole... :D

PS - how can you tell it's polarizing when posters can only express themselves with one word? It's hard to get context that way. ;)

I suggested locking, not deleting. But your plan also works...

If we're talking nuclear options, orfeo can delete his account and create a new one...

I'm well aware of that. I'm also well aware that locking the thread, which is what I suggested, is a lot less "nuclear".

We'll let you start Part 2, dear. No-one said you couldn't keep playing.

True, but sequels are never as good.  :)

Ok, so that's the one exception out of many. And maybe Gremlins 2:The New Batch, but that's where I'm drawing the line.

That's up for discussion, but I would be one to agree. No better Godfather moment than the Fredo kiss of death.  :'(

Which is less nuclear depends on whether the warheads are aimed at you or not. Maybe you could just not pay attention to the spurious notifications.

What do you think I've been trying for the last 4 years?

I've had no reply from Admin.

At all. Not a "no", nothing.

It seems that you both live in Canberra.
So: jump on the bike, pay him a visit, and beat him up nicely.
That'll teach him.

Ha. While it is remarkable we live in the same city, so do 400,000 other people, and I don't have nearly to go on to pick out the right one.

Nearing a month since I went to all the work of deleting all my posts, and... Nice to see the One-Word Posts thread has been so active the last few days. Unlike any effective action on my request, which I didn't think was that hard.

I should be fair, an attempt was at least made by Gurn.

A second message to the Admin.

Silence.

I'm sorry, but this is fucking ridiculous. It would be one thing for someone to say they couldn't do something about it, or explain why they wouldn't do something about it. But to get no response at all is completely absurd.

I've had to endure this issue for a couple of years. So you can all endure me complaining about it here for a couple of years. Or, you know, SOMEONE COULD HELP ME FIX IT.

I still haven't had any reply from the Admin. Moderators, do you know if he's actually alive?

He is, to my knowledge. But he rarely visits.

As to your problem, I don't have the answer.

If it's any consolation, I have the same issue with "new replies" to deleted posts... ::)

That thread actually still contained a post by you.. I took the liberty of deleting it... 8)

perambulist

Let's see if it helps.

You're welcome. :)

If you need to look for your own posts, it is best to use the advanced search: http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php?action=search;advanced;search=

And fill in your user name, and this case, also select looking on thread title.

One Word Posts is still turning up in my "new replies" list, so removing perambulists hasn't done the trick.

Then close them.

We would be flooded with revolutionary one and two word pamphlets... :o :o  I would have personally closed them on day 1, but I would have been accused of something truly evil, like being a polyword sympathizer...

Oh please. As I've already indicated, I'm not saying they should be banned. There is already at least one case that I know about of a long thread being closed and a new one started in its place.
