Title: Login frustration
Post by: king ubu on May 27, 2016, 12:46:33 AM
Can't login on my computer (pw wrong, fegh you verymuch!), only on tablet or phone. Can't reset pw (not that I should - I can log out and back in on the other devices with that "wrong" pw - but after deleting cookies and all, what else should I try?), getting a login threshold message.

Guess I'm outta here then, until they let me back in. I need a real keyboard to post, the site us so totally smartphone-unfriendly.

Changing the pw won't help.

And just in case, I started my computer and browser new this morning. Until then I was logged in "forever" and usually that did work.

Okay, new pw worked on different browser ... so, what can I try other than deleting cookies?

Not just deleting cookies: must clear history and cache too. Generally the browser tries to take a shortcut and use a cached pages. SO deleting cookies only starts you on, when you try to log in, the browser will still have pages cached that it tries to use.

Think I did all that, but will try again tomorrow ... now dragging my feverish self to the opera and probably collapsing after that.

But why would gmg decide to act on me like this today?

Okay, it worked on second attempt ... guess I had indeed not cleared all I should have - thanks, Gurn!

Y'r welcome. I didn't know about this because I am a Mod, but because it has happened to me twice before. :D

At least I'm not alone then  :)

Last night's show ("Pelléas et Mélisande" at Zurich Opera) was awesome, btw ... and next morning, I was still logged in after a new start (us funny yurpeens do shut down electronic devices over night, usually). So all is good :)

As the Englishman watches this Swiss-Texican bonding, he brushes a manly tear from his eye.   :P

If I go to make myself a cup of tea I have to log in again by the time I get back.  ???

Go to your settings and clear out your cache and cookies, then shut down your browser and restart it. That works 99% of the time. It is up to you to not be the damned 1%er!  :D

And check the forever box when you log in if it's a computer you don't share.

And speed up your tea-brewing process!
