Wow, if you're listening for the first time to the entire cycle, you did a lot of collecting first! Here is my complete Mahler collection:

Mahler - Symphony No 1 - Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra - Rafael Kubelik [Audite not DG]
Mahler - Symphony No 2 - Budapest Festival Orchestra - Ivan Fischer
Mahler - Symphony No 10, adagio - can't remember the orchestra - Rafael Kubelik

I am quite happy with Kubelik's First - it's a staggering, glittering performance - but the only other Mahler symphony that I like is the Eighth. And Antoni Wit's recording is good enough for me there. :)

P.S. My least favorite Mahler is the Fifth, which is tough for me to even tolerate... though I've only heard 1, 2, 5, and 8, so maybe the others will be more to my taste?

Love this recording, Brian.

I love the performance, but aside from the last ten minutes I find the symphony incredibly boring. :(

:(  I don't find anything boring about Mahler.  However, those last ten minutes are some of the most exciting moments in any symphony.

See, that's how weird Mahler is, that I can find the Second Symphony boring and the Eighth fantastic!

Well........until recently, I would agree.  However, the last time I listened to the 8th, I generally enjoyed it.  Especially the Part II.

Favorite symphonies or favorite recordings?

I suppose my favorite is Das Lied von der Erde.  Favorite recordings must include Klemperer with Ludwig & Wunderlich, Boulez with Urmana & Schade, Kubelick with Baker & Kmentt, MTT with Skelton & Hampson, and Herreweghe with Remmert & Blochwitz in Schoenberg & Riehn's reduction for chamber orchestra.

Next would probably be the 4th in a tie these days with the 3rd, then the 5th, 2nd, and 9th right on their heels, closely followed by the 1st, 7th, and 6th, with the 8th trailing.  In all of these I'm likely to choose recordings by most of the same conductors as above (excepting Herreweghe), but notably adding Bernstein, Sinopoli, and perhaps Chailly for most, Fischer for the 4th, Barshai for the 5th & 10th (his completion), and Nagano for the 8th.

Welcome to GMG, laredo!  (another Texan?)

Good question. I might have misunderstood what the OP wants from us. In any case, my favorite Mahler symphonies really are all ten plu Das Lied so I'll let my post stand.

(choke! splutter!)

Mahler 2 blew my socks off when I first heard it when I was about 8. It continues to amaze and enthral me almost 40 years later.

Each to their own, of course.

Laredo, your language is not bad at all.  Your English is molto superiore to my lingua italiana!
