I think Liebelei isn't available on DVD, states or no states. You can either get it on VHS (usually pricey) or recorded from German TV from the internet. Since TV rips are not under copyright here you go:

Well after our recent trip to NYC including a Broadway show, we needed some show tune history & performances:

Richard Rodgers - The Sweetest Sounds (2001) - outstanding bio documentary; includes his work w/ Hart & Hammerstein -  :D

Barbara Cook In Mostly Sondheim (2003) - excellent concert performance of a variety of popular tunes from the past; we saw her live in San Fran about 6-7 yrs ago - a joy!  :)

The first movie was fab, the second shit, and the third one fab again.
There was some data trouble in the II and III film.
If interested in the music I play, please ask me, and I will tell you what my thoughts are.

For anyone who cares, Criterion is releasing Ophuls's Lola Montès on DVD and Blu-Ray this February. Can't wait to finally see it!

Call me sentimental, call me old fashioned, but I love this film. Never I saw Demi Moore more beautiful as here. The scene with the pottery is beyond believe, the most sexy scene I ever saw. This woman would even turn a ancient mummy on.

Ghost is also a sentimental favourite here. Like Forrest Gump too. 'Little' movies can make a big impression.

Not a Movie, but I have been enjoying the New Adventures of Old Christine. Julia still looks great, but I found this photo from the past and suddenly recalled the immense crush I had on her when she was on Seinfeld:

And how is Liebelei, Corey? I wasn't aware that Magda Schneider was in it (she was Romy's mother, and her most famous film contributions were as her daughter's mother in the Sissi series). Interestingly, Romy was to star in a 1958 remake of Liebelei titled Christine, where her male lead (on and off screen) was Alain Delon. I didn't know anything of that, just googled it. So, back to Ophüls' Liebelei: any good ? From the cast list, it looks like a franco-german production. Could that be?

I liked it. A bit predictable (soldier has an affair with a nobleman's wife, nobleman finds out, they duel, ends tragically), but well-acted (Gustaf Gründgens as the Baron exudes thinly-veiled violence) and well photographed — though, he would do better IMO.

This is surely one of the best films in my collection. I have watched it a dozen times and more, but every time it will draw me in again, and become part of this cinematic dream.[
