The first movement is beautifully done: hushed, intense, one of the best I've ever heard. The Allegro seems paced just right. The Presto disappointed. Didn't seem manic enough. Too serious? I'm repeating the two fast movements to see if the last movement works better on second hearing.

The overall sound is brilliant. Very "live" and detailed. Feels like you are in the hall. Maybe the best sound this symphony has ever gotten.

Very interesting, thanks, Sarge!

Dave, I've got that one at home, but I've not listened to it in . . . maybe a decade.  The Harnoncourt I've listened to recently, though, is a beauty.

Didn't get to finish this one.

One of the reasons I listen to that suite so seldom is, once I get started, I really do not want to tear away before the end.  For a piece that isn't any actual symphony, it still has that integrity and center of gravity.

Not at all surprisingly, an exquisitely poignant Adagietto . . . the sort of piece which could convert anyone into a Mahlerian.
