Then say more about what it is about Maurice that you love enough to join our merry crew. Lately, I've been playing the trio a lot. -x

Hi Ravel Fan, and welcome. Ravel was one of the very first composers I got to know. When I was about twelve or so, I heard Rapsodie espagnole in concert and loved it. Then went out and found records by conductor André Cluytens, and pretty much liked everything I heard.
Last year I finally heard L'enfant et les Sortilèges in concert -- had never heard the whole thing. Another great piece...

The local orchestra played Le Tombeau de Couperin the first time I ever saw them, and I loved it. Still do.

Bernstein conducting Ravel must have been one of the first classical Lps I ever bought (from Licorice Pizza!). For Bolero, of course, this being the late 70s. But La Valse and D&C2 were also on that Lp, and those works were a revelation.

In another thread we were discussing a DVD, Bernstein: Live in Japan (1979) which is fantastic, and there is also this one from Paris, from 1975. I haven't heard it yet, but boy, does it look tasty. --Bruce
