While doing the morning household chores I had my latest acquisition, his Three Tales playing; definitely not the correct way to learn about a new work, but I do it to let the music leave an impression on my brain, no matter how shallow, the serious listening will come during a quiet and undisturbed time.

The Steve Reich Ensemble with the conductor Bradley Lubman sound superb, especially the four member percussion section. - What else do you expect of a Steve Reich work? - From the recital during the Dolly section I caught a sentence I want to share:

"We create things much faster than our natural evolution."

I don't think there's a correct way to listen to a new work. Putting it on while doing the chores sounds perfectly fine to me. I have less and less time for listening to music with undivided attention, but housework doesn't occupy a whole lot of grey matter, leaving most of your mind free to concentrate on the music. I always use wireless headphones so that outside aural distractions are eliminated.
