That's with Boult and the RPO in the Dvorak and Sargent and the LPO in the Saint-Saëns.  Via the dreaded Caimen.

Found I could pick this up for a cool $30, and resistance was futile:

Can't wait to see how the cover relates to the story:

. . . or, even if it does not, what do I care?  Cool

That's quite a cover, and I can't imagine what it has to do with the plot.  Some great music though, and the young lady is a fox.

What year(s) is the recording on this Daverz?

$30? Amazon has it brand new for under $26, and shipping is free.

Dvorak - Piano Concerto & The Golden Spinning Wheel - yes, I know, the PC is certainly not considered his 'best' work in the 'concerto' genre, but a 'cheapo' from BMG, and my first listen to this composition.

Magnard - Symphonies 2 & 4 - already have the Nos. 1 & 3 by Sanderling & the Malmo SO - just felt the need to have the other two (have not given then a listen yet, but a little disappointed that the 2-CD set comes w/ only about 40 mins. per disc - price is that of 1 CD, but might have been done differently?).

Gernsheim - Complete Symphonies 2-CD Arte Nova bargin set recommended by others (I hope!  If not, don't know why I bought this composer who is unknown to me -  Roll Eyes Wink Grin).

Mahler - The Symphonies w/ Chailly; 12 CD box set - the BIG ONE of the group!  Shocked  Own all of Mahler's symphonies w/ various composers, but wanted a 'box' - plenty of discussion here in a number of different threads; of course, no 'ideal' choice but this one seem like one of the 'top' ones to consider, plus again a great deal through the BMG club for me!

Now - a lot of listening to do over the Easter weekend - hope my bunnies are up to it!  laugh

Yeah, what's up with that? I see quite a few CDs, like Thielemann's Bruckner 5th, where there are more than 80 minutes of music per disc, so it's not like they can't fit the two Magnard symphonies on 1 CD.

Yes, irritating, but the price was right - just checked my other Magnard CD, 77 mins. (33" + 44" for the other 2 symphonies); I guess they might have 'squeezed' all four on 2 CDs (but might have needed to speed up the tempos and/or eliminate some repeats etc?).   Undecided

Yeah, I know, don't get all excited...  Grin

I picked this up for the extensive rehearsal sequences, and because I was curious to see Karajan at work in his prime -- all of the DVDs I have of him are from his last few years.  I've never heard him in Schumann 4, but his Beethoven 5th has always been my favorite of all versions -- the highlight of all 4 of his CD LvB cycles IMO.

If that is directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot you're in for some unusual orchestral seating.
