David Cronenberg's A History of Violence.  Haunting, like many of his films.

I just rented War of the Worlds, the original George Pal production. It's a great film, '50s sci-fi at its best.

I assume you mean the movie shown below?  This is an ULTIMATE 50s' Sci-Fi classic w/ Gene Barry - a must OWN if you're into this '50s genre of sci-fi movies - just superb (an Oscar for special effects IIRC). Enjoy for those who have not seen this movie.  laugh

I watched the new edition, they may have remastered it at a higher bitrate, because it looks great. There are some great extras, as well, interviews with the cast and crew, and other stuff.

Here are the last several DVDs (not counting operas and TV) from my netflix queue:

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, 1966

Silly but fun, if you don't mind musical comedies about happy-go-lucky Roman slaves.  Too few songs, though, but apparently the original show had a lot more.

Deep Cover, 1992

Not very original, but still worthwhile neo-noir crime thriller.

I'm Not Scared, 2003

Italian thriller about a child kidnapping, from the point of view of the boy who discovers the hole the kidnapped boy has been hidden in.  Beautifully filmed, and amazing acting from the kids.  Not very talky if you have problems with subtitles.

Lagaan, 2001

I rented this because it sounded like an interesting twist on hackneyed "sports underdog" theme (cricket in 19th century India).  I knew something was up when I got this and the timing was over 3 hours.  I was really taken aback when the characters spontaneously broke into a song and dance number!  What had I gotten myself into?  I'd never seen a Bollywood film before.  But once I got over the shock I really enjoyed this film.

Legend of 1900, 1998

A very contrived film.  A disappointment from the director of Cinema Paradiso.  At one point I got so annoyed I hit the stop button and to force myself to finish it, not a good sign.
