That one in particular is particularly brilliant! I've always had a fascination (bordering on irk) with these German job titles and compound words that are just chains of otherwise-unaltered words. So at least I'm not alone. :D

You egalitarian foreigners may well mock :)

You do not have the advantage of living in a country with many, many centuries of tradition. A country in which honours are bestowed by a bountiful monarch on the deserving great. A country where everyone still knows his or her place. A Land of Hope and Glory. A land of..........

Oh, what nonsense it all is............. ;D

I know, I know ;D  But there is no harm in knowing what are the correct forms used for particular individuals.

Tell you what. I could copy my post into a separate thread. Would that serve the purpose?

It will.  :)
... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

No, there isn't. And I liked your exhaustive exposé, Colin.  :)

Such as Lord Archer...and now we have to carry the ignomy of the Thatcher offspring.

I was only dimly aware of some of these fine distinctions, thanks.

Now, re the plea to the Mods. I think it is fine Colin if you want to post this elsewhere. How about a new conductors' thread? It could be in performing or the general discussion room.

Good discussions on conductors should prove popular.

Thanks for your reply, Mike :)

I have taken your advice and copied my post into a new thread.

Wow! That's a task and a half ;D

However, in the spirit of Christmas goodwill ;D ;D-

Superb!! Thanks very much, this is most helpful. [Can we have someone copy the relevant information into WIKIpedia, perhaps? Or start an entry on Conductors with Honors?

Yup, this chaining was a german speciality (the logic is simple: one thing -> one word, no spaces. Sometimes lesser binding through '-'), but this is past, because germans are a) confused of the spelling reform and b) anglo american over-influenced plus unwanted brownnosing. We tend to use english job titles increasingly. Many job names include the term "Manager" today. At least you are the manager of yourself. Germans think this sounds cool.
I'd say we germans are the Oberspitzensuperweltarschkriecher :)
Honestly. "Denglish", a problem in Germany. What would you expect in a "Back Shop" by the way? Oh oh O T.

I would like to be known as "Sir vandermolen" from now on. My Knighthood self awarded for services to the promotion of the music of J. Braga Santos  ;D

I am already a Knight.

Now what I want is the money.

I would prefer a Dukedom myself, Jeffrey ;D

The 1st Duke of Dundonnell sounds good to me ;D ;D

Chandos has announced the release in February of Richard Hickox's last recording. It is Sir Eugene Goossens's Symphony No.1 and the Phantasy Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. The soloist is Howard Shelley with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Although I already have the Goossens Symphony in the recording by Vernon Handley I shall certainly buy this cd both for the concerto and in grateful thanks for Hickox's towering achievements in the recording studio :( :)

knight66

What is the Goossens piece like?

Thanks for connecting me to that piece. I will look out for the new disc.
