Brahms VC
LvB PC 4
Proko PC 3

Really? Mozart's 17th is soo much better than Beet 4th, and Beets VC in the top 7?

Not in any order ...

Brahms PC 1
Brahms PC 2 (this one took longer to get into, but it's right up there with the D minor for me these days)
Beethoven PC 4
Prokofiev PC 3
Bartok PC 1
Schumann PC
Shostakovich VC 1 (a bit piano-centric so I'll stick this one in)

which doesn't leave room for Mozart PCs :'(
Durch alle Töne tönet
Im bunten Erdentraum
Ein leiser Ton gezogen
Für den der heimlich lauschet.

Lies! Lies! Slander! Lies!

Continuing the list your favorites craze, here's another one. Could you please list you seven favorite concertos for instrument(s) and orchestra? I know seven is an arbitrary number - I just decided it had to be a little less than in the symphonies thread, because I think most composers usually write slightly less concertos than symphonies (even given the various instruments).

I guess I should start the thread off by giving my list. But I just can't make up my mind yet. I'll get back to you. ;D

Cheers,
Maciek

This could change at any time, but right off hand this bunch comes immediately to mind. In fact, just writing about the Ewazen inspired a desire to hear it, and it's tootling away right this second. Russell Peck's piece will follow it.

Bartok - 2nd Piano Concerto
Ginastera - 2nd Piano Concerto
Yoshimatsu - Trombone Concerto "Orion Machine"
Wuorinen - Cello Concerto "Five"
Chavez - Piano Concerto
Ewazen - Tenor Sax Concerto "Classical"
Peck - Percussion Concerto "The Glory and the Grandeur"

Nice list, gomro! 8)

Thanks! Since I wrote that (mere minutes ago, in fact, 1.4 movements of the Ewazen "Classical" Concerto ago) 7 different faves have come to mind; this may be an endless task, but it will definitely generate a night of great, diverse music:

Penderecki - Violin Cto #2 "Metamorphosen"
Wuorinen - Piano Cto #3
Hanson - Piano Cto
Liebermann - Cto for Jazz band and Orchestra
Kraft - Tympani Cto
Schoenberg - Piano Cto
Balada - Four-Guitar Cto

After a bit more thought, here's a new list from me (with performers of preference in brackets):

Gorecki Harpsichord Concerto (Chojnacka)
Gudmundsen-Holmgreen Triptych for percussion and orchestra (Mortensen)
Khachaturian Violin Concerto (Wilkomirska)
Kulenty Violin Concerto No. 1 for violin with delay and orchestra (Bakowski)
Lutoslawski "Violin Triptych": Partita - Interlude - Chain 2 (Bakowski)
Szymanowski Violin Concerto (Wilkomirska)
Szymanski Piano Concerto (Poblocka)

I'm amazed that it's tolerated to just post a list with no explanation or anything. People can actually read this stuff?

I consider the "Beets VC" among the weaker of his large-scale orchestral works.
