I was looking for information on a Raff symphony and noticed what a great resource the Raff Society's homepage is. It can be a little difficult to browse, but there is lots of information on various works of a programme note quality (which is nothing to sniff at given the obscurity of the music involved): http://www.raff.org/index.htm

Another excellent one is for Havergal Brian: http://www.havergalbrian.org/

The great achivement of http://www.hberlioz.com/ almost goes without saying - only recently has the Wikipedia entry overtaken it on Google's hit list (sadly, this is partly my fault, as I greatly improved the WP article a year back, although who knows what horrible state it is currently in).

Does anybody have any recommendations for society/enthusiast websites dedicated to a composer with enough information for the reader to gain a detailed understanding of the artist and their music? The relative obscurity of the composer in question is a plus :P

I used to visit http://prokofiev.org back in the day.  But it is fallen to neglect.  The forums are quite good, though.

May I humbly suggest the site I run about the Japanese composer Akira Ifukube: www.akiraifukube.org.

You have likely never heard of him, and thus a website about him may be of limited interest to you, but here it is anyway!

Most all Composer sites have sooomeone making them look good and slick, no? Haven't really seen a bad one yet.
