I woke up today and my right hand felt odd. I looked at it and saw my middle finger (it's crooked) was swollen.
Mom said it's a tumor. I didn't hurt it. It wasn't there yesterday.
Anyone know what's going on?

Could be you slept on it in a funny way, and pinched something.  But I am no doctor

jchen

no I didn't. I didn't hit it or anything. it just appeared.  :o

I'm no doctor, but I've never heard of a tumor of the finger; or the toe for that matter.  Sometimes we don't remember bruising ourselves, and wake up sore and bruised.  It generally is very transient.  If the swelling doesn't start to subside in a day or two, you should get it checked out by a doctor.  Rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme disease, SLE, as well as a lot of other things I haven't heard about can cause joint swelling and pain.  Most are easily treated.  Play it safe rather than sorry.

well I guess but I may have NF-1 because of several reasons...  :P

Hello Jessica - I've been following your recent posts and remain dubious about your claim to be a 14 y/o - I'm always suspicious of 'trolls' on these types of forums (we've had a number in the past, often disgruntled previous members) - I was willing to read your posts on a number of threads, but this recent one is bothersome; NF-1 is Neurofibromatosis Type I, an autosomal inherited disease that can produce a variety of manifestations from skin spots to neurogenic tumors of all sorts, but 'waking up' w/ a sudden swollen finger would be quite unlikely (and yes, I am a physician!).

Now, if you really have this disease, please accept my apologies, and I hope you the best; however, if you have just 'googled' this disorder and are playing on the emotions of the other posters, then be careful - this is a very accepting forum and has responded well to 'young' members in the past - we would love your presence but honesty is important.  I hope that I am wrong; and if so, please explain yourself clearly - thanks!  :-\

Her mother might have told her about it. IIRC, she wants her to be a nurse, and is thus very likely somewhat interested in and/or loosely connected to the medical world. I think you might understand the possible situation.

As for the trolling, that's the instinctive reaction of anyone slightly internet-savvy, but I wouldn't think this post constitutes evidence of trolling. Quite the contrary, she might have googled it being worried, and the internet does tend to give one rather pessimistic "diagnoses". ;)

(Remember, not everyone has the real medical training to put things in context.)

NB anyone could be troll, of course. Literally anyone.

I could be a troll, for all anyone knows, complete with fake Facebook profile. It wouldn't be the worst thing I'd heard of, in the modern internet.

But even if so, it's somewhat like the "knowledge is justified true belief" issue, and the famous Gödel case, in the end. :)

I didn't google it. My mom told me and showed me a little booklet. She told me a lot of things... :P
It looks less swollen today, to me. Mom said it doesn't to her :P

huh ???
You optimistically thought your finger less swollen. Your mom thought otherwise, and told you so. I was trying to be ironic... :)

I could have been a troll, but I'm actually a changeling.  >:D
