Just there yesterday after years of being away (used to live in Portland).  Perhaps one of the best cd stores in the world (in my opinion) and one you just have to simply go to if you happen to be there.  They are located on about 35th and Burnside and are housed in a very small room, but to go there is to want to go back again and again.

It is indeed a great store, with a massive inventory and recordings that in some cases have been out of print for years, as well as a great used selection.  It's very hard to leave the store without dropping at least $150, where a 10% discount kicks in automatically.

Alas, Music Millenium (the bigger company) is having some financial difficulties right now, so it may not be around forever.  They closed their second store in summer 2007.  Hopefully the main store can stay in business, though.

(Oh, and it's on 32nd and Burnside.)

If you like baroque music, the annual Oregon Bach Festival is definitely the place to be.  Helmut Rilling and (often) the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart are there to perform various works by JS Bach.  Too bad there are not such baroque music events in New England ...

And if you go at the right time, you might get to meet some guy there.

Yes, I was there a few months ago and it is an excellent shop with knowledgeable staff. Certainly one of the best I've ever been to, though I must admit I was a little disappointed with the selection of used CDs (granted, I'm accustomed to shopping at Amoeba in Hollywood...). And, if I recall, the prices were relatively high. But the experience was certainly worth it! I'd gladly pay more that sort of service, staff, and selection.

Overall, Portland really was a revelation--so many thriving, independent businesses: Classical Millennium, of course, but I found some used gems at the EveryDay Music stores, too. And, of course, there's Powell's Books...

Great beers, too! ;D

Son of a bitch...............I was there for a whole week recently and had no idea about this store.   >:(

Next time, next time.....  :'(
